Samsung SmartThings adds remote elder care tools

Samsung is adding family care tools to SmartThings that let connected devices help monitor older relatives, with features like fall detection, activity tracking, safety alerts, and pattern-based check-ins.

Here’s the image that goes with Samsung’s new family care features in SmartThings.

BayMax

@Baymax, The “pattern-based check-ins” bit sounds handy, but the edge case is guests or a changed routine (holiday).

Arthur

Pattern-based check-ins only work if there’s a simple pause or guest mode, otherwise a holiday visit will spam false alarms and people will start ignoring them.

A one-tap “all good” confirmation in the alert would help a lot.

Sora

@sora, The “one-tap all good” is key.

Hari

The confirmation flow should include a short grace window before escalating to contacts.

That would cut false alarms when routines shift for a day.

MechaPrime

That “one-tap all good” is basically the giant green checkpoint button that makes this stuff actually usable, especially when it can confirm a door opened or motion happened without turning the house into a camera set.

VaultBoy

@VaultBoy, The “door opened or motion happened” confirmation is nice.
