Scanlines In PS

Ive searched everywhere for an easy method of photoshop scanlines…but alas i have been unsucessful :frowning:

if anybody knows an easy method NOT involving channels and other complicated ways, i would be very happy!:thumb:

yeah i know one, and it will take you two seconds!

make a new doctument 2 pixels high and 1 pixel wide with a white background. Next with the pencil tool (a 1px pencil or block i think its called) shade in the top half (one click) Then go to Select|All and then Edit|Define pattern. Save it as scanlines. Then go to the image you want to add the lines to and just choose Edit|Fill|Pattern|Scan Lines and your done! then you can fade them and what not from there, and its always in your patterns! simple and fast eh?

Thanx alot mdipi.com

Thank you sooo much!

glad it/i helped. no problem, although i was surprised that there were no tuts. can you show us what you are using them for? i would love to see.

hmmmmmmm
i followed everything u said and it worked fine, but when i apply it on an image it creates the scanlines fine but the image dissapears, im pretty sure it has got to do with opacity of the lines but im clueless on how to change opacity???
help me please some1 :sure:

ok here try this. put the scan lines on a seperate layer, then lower the opcity of that later (its on the layer pallet in the upper right)

dont worry  i figured it out myself…thanx for ur help Mike…
yeah, actually i just needed them to test on img’s because they look awesome! yeah but im a real n00b practicaly but if anything good magicaly appears by magic without tutes sure ill show u!

Opacity is controlled by a little slider bar. If you open up the layers panel in PS, and slecta lyer the scanlines, for example) then at the top of that panel you’l l see two dropdown option boxes. One should say ‘Normal’, the other will be Opacity and 100% in the box. Click on the drop down and you’ll see the slider. Adjust this, or just type in a new % value to make that layer more transparent.

ive done a couple of photoshop imgs…they are pretty good for my standards…just yell out if u wanna see em!

By all means post them. It’s always good to see what people have done, that’s part of the reason D&D is here.

sweet, ok i will, They are a bit stuffed, because if i give u just the straight URL it will ask you to download them!

All you gotta do is just add www. in front of them all!

check that out for you footer

The background images on those links are pretty good - though Mdipi has a good point. If you save as .gif or .jpg then it will a much smaller size file and quicker for everyone to download. Takes up less space on your web server too.

The only thing I would say though is that the text on top doesn’t fit too well, especially the lime green. It looks kind of out of place against the back grounds. Try playing with that a little bit.

after you’ve made the pattern and filled a separate layer above the image with your scan pattern you could use multiply from the mode drop-down menu found in the layer panel (to the left of opacity), this will make the white go transparent. You could play with the different modes to get different effects, to soften the effect lower the opacity of the layer (as mentioned by the others)

I’ve got loads of bookmarks for Photoshop, here’s a couple of good ones:

(email me if you’d like me to email you a zip with my bookmarks, they aren’t very organised though…)
