Shine Effect - question

I was doing the “Creating the the Shine Effect” and I wanted to add an image instead of a block which was to be masked. I can’t seem to get it to work. I remember seeing this effect on a few sites - although I don’t have any links to such an example anymore - but its something like a text/graphic that is shined over (not sure if you can follow me).

Anyway, I tried importing a PNG into flash and I end up with something with this. Which doesnt seem to work. I can’t understand why. Could someone please help out?

Here’s what you do…

Import your picture onto the stage, center it and use the effect panel to darken it.

Make a new layer and drag a new instance of the image onto the stage and center it
again.

Now create a new mask layer over the top of this one and animate it.

ahh! I cant get it to work. I tried doing what you said, but it wont work either. (I couldn’t find the “effect panel” either :S - bare with me please, I’m a newbie to flash)

Here’s the file. Also, I forgot to mention you need to convert your picture to a graphic with F8 before you can alter the effects (appear in the panel at the bottom called the Property Inspector - I used the “Brightness” section).

I get it now! Thanks for showing me that. Although that wasn’t actually what I had in mind. But I’ll save that FLA in my library so I’ll know how its done in the future.

Let me try to find what I’m searching for. Basically, its like a vertical light reflected on the picture.

I’ve made something similar (using your method) to what I’m looking for. But it doesn’t kinda look right, not sure what it is I’m doing wrong.

Try creating a new layer above your image and tracing around your logo with the pencil then filling everything with any colour (I use red) and then put your animation of a sliding bar thing on a layer UNDERNEATH that one. Then, right click on the layer that has your red filled in version of the logo and select “Mask”.

So you should have three layers: the bottom one is your normal logo, the middle one is the sliding gradient bar thing and the top one is the sketch type image you drew.

If you still can’t get it working, post the actual graphic file of your logo and I’ll do my best to help.
