I for one am a huge fan of coffee shops… nothing better than drinking an iced chai latte while reading a good book or a newspaper in a quiet setting with fragrant aromas sweeping the air …
now imagine this in a mcDonalds… hard to believe but MickyD’s thinks that they can bing the same feel to their coffe shops…McCafe. i don’t think so … instead of coffee aromas… there will be grease smells… instead of luscious quiet… there will be screaming kids whinig about not getting the right toy in their happy meal…
i believe this is wrong to try to franchise what was meant to be a unique experience at every shoppe. (starbucks excluded… they are more of a caffeine refill station than a coffe shoppe) they are local and warm an inviting… you can’t duplicate that.
Coffee has been “capitalized” already. Most successful, “unique” shops are actually chains or franchises. Beaners, Starbucks, etc…
Let McDonald’s do what they will – no one’s going to force you to change your drinking habits and adapt to McCafe. If it brings in more money, fine.
Personally, I think the losers that spend $300/lb. on some special roast are just that – losers.
One nice thing (for the war driver in all of us) will be a proliferation of wireless internet sites. Guaranteed no one in that place is going to know what wireless packet sniffing is – so you can just decrypt a username/password and use it for free (if it isn’t already). And not a burger-flipper in the world is going to try and stop you, he’s not getting paid enough to do so.
LOL what, do ythey just cook the food while your there instead of before?.. we have a chipolte and a mcdonalds near where i live. (chipolte is mexican food… owned by mcdonalds)
I’m all for more options in coffee shops. There are times when I want to get coffee and get out, and there are times when I would prefer sitting around and not be in a hurry to leave. So, McDonalds would be great for quick coffee refills, while a neighborhood or local coffee shop would be good to relax.
I would be upset if McDonald’s is able to undercut other, less trafficked coffeeshops with lower prices and cause them to close - Wal-Mart style. With that said, StarBucks really isn’t a bad place, and it’ll take a while before McDonalds is able to put a dent in StarBucks :jag:

Yes… Just about all the Maccas I know make your burgers while you wait, there are no more cutes full of burgers here. (chips is still a crap shoot)
As for Mc Cafe, I am all for it, I go to Maccas a lot more than I go to a coffee shop, and it is nice to get a cake and frape or something. If it wasn’t there I wouldn’t go drive to a coffee shop. And as I live a 1 min drive from Maccas, I have popped in for a late night snack plenty of times.
Only prob is that a piece of cake is like $4… I can go to the “Cheese cake shop” and get half a cheese cake for $8… Yeah I know… but a few times when I was about to buy 1 slice at Maccas I thought screw that, I will go get a half… then end up buying a whole one anyway.
