I created a movie clip that contains a tween of text moving downward behind a mask.
On the main timeline I created 2 layers.
1 layer has the regular movie clip.
The other layer has the same movie clip but I flipped it upside down and lowered the _alpha (Click on the clip and hit CTRL+F3 to open up the properties window then there is a drop down box where you can choose alpha and set the value).
[edit]And I just realized this thread is in Flash 5 so you can’t open my MX document… 'DOH! Well hopefully the process I described above helped[/edit]
Ok, trying to get more in depth (since you can’t view my .fla file).
Step 1: Create your text
Step 2: Convert your text into a movie clip symbol
Step 3: Right click on Frame 20 (or whichever) and choose “Insert Keyframe”
Step 4: Right click on the grey area in between, choose “Create Motion Tween” (You may have to repeat this process on the last frame as well)
Step 5: Select the last keyframe and click on your text in that keyframe. Hold Shift to keep its path in a straight line and drag your text down some so its new postion would be approximately right under its old position.
Step 6: Create a new Layer. In this layer click on Frame 1. Draw a rectangle that will encase your text, this should extend over all your frames in your layer below (which containes your text).
Step 7: Right click on the layer with your rectangle and choose “Mask” to create a mask over the text under it. When you test your movie you will see part 1 of this sinking effect.
Step 8: Return to the main timeline. Open your Library (CTRL+L) and drag another instance of your movie clip on the stage (preferably on a new layer, but not required).
Step 9: Use the free transform tool to flip the new clip upside down.
Step 10: Open the properties window (CTRL+3) and lower the alpha of the clip.
Step 11: Drag this clip right below the original clip so they will go into eachother.
Now test your movie I hope this helped! :beam:
[edit]hmm, maybe I should add this tutorial to Kirupa[/edit]
I’ve followed the instructions carefully but was only successful up to step 7.
When I go to test the movie the only thing that happens are the two clips ( text and shadow) tweening, the rectangle that encased the text is not visible in the movie but on the movie clip symbol.
If you are only up to step 7 you shouldn’t have a shadow yet.
In step 7 you will be inside your movie clip.
There will be 2 layers.
One layer I will call “Mask” which is on the top.
And another one I will call “text” which is on the bottom.
You will tween your text at the bottom layer “text” to move how you want it.
Then in the layer “Mask” you will draw a rectangle that will overlap your text position in Frame 1. Then (if Flash didn’t do it by defualt) you will right click in the last frame on the layer “Mask” and hit “Insert Frame” so your rectangle will be across all the frames.
Then you will right click on the layer and choose “Mask” from the context menu.
I know that the rectangle is a mask and that it should be invisible in movie but shouldn’t my texts disappear?
What I want to happen is for my top text to sink and while its sinking the bottom (the reflection) also sinks too, as if the texts were merging together and disappears.
Sorry for being a pain with this. I don’t why I can’t get it!
I shoulda thought of that before the screenshot. Just because you don’t have Flash MX doesn’t mean you dont have the Flash 6 plugin for the browser…LOL!!!
