Sinking effect

Hi Kat,
If you are using flash 5 I have attatched a simple version of what I think your asking for.:bandit:

I think that’s just helped me as well. For some reason I couldn’t get my text to scroll and have a mask fade out over it without breaking apart the text, which of course makes editing it a nightmare.

I think my problem may have been that I didn’t turn it into a movieclip symbol (a schoolboy error). I’m not sure, but I’m going to go and try it out.

The text I’m talking about is the text that fades up in the panel on the right in: www.urbanscrawl.com

Fingers Crossed.

Hi urbanscrawl,
If you get stuck let me know and i will see if I can help as I did something similar quite recently:bandit:

If you are using dynamic text you cannot mask it unless you embed the font outlines (you can do that in the properties panel of your text box). Otherwise use static text.

You are of course absolutely right Lost’ - I am using Dynamic text and so it didn’t work. It switches to Dynamic text after it has loaded though so that’s all good.

Thanks boys.

How do I get a main timeline and a movieclip?

I notice you have a timeline(scene1) and a movieclip.

I didnt see that transition in your tutorial. Did I miss something.?

I mean this:

You have mask and text in movieclip and:

line
regular
upsidedown in main timeline

Man, i am so lost…can u please help me

I cant even learn the simple things

Man, i am so lost

Oh boy am I confused.

This maintimline and movieclip thing has given me a massive headache.Literally

my .fla is attached if someone is willing to help me.

Trying to do a little something for the wife

So, take it easy. Don´t go fry your brains yet.:stuck_out_tongue:

Take a look at that (attached file) and see if that is what you want.

=)

Did you notice that it didn’t actually sink right?

Because the shape sinking has an angle in it, the ground that swallows it up must also have an angle to reflect that. In their animation the ground is flat which accidentally gives the impression that there is some sort of flat raised barrier behind which it is sinking. All they need to do was use a mask with a slightly different shape that reflected the sinking objects shape.

Pedantic I know, but what is Flash design if removed from everyday artistic considerations…?

besides sinking effect I ve been curious to learn how the man animation at http://www.i360.net was made ;
Flix stuff??

Yeah, it is an imported movie of some sort. If you zoom in you can see it gets pixelated and such, meaning it is probably imported images.

Hi lost

the imported man to mc at http://www.i360.net/ is raster no doubt ;
but there are others small men alike i360 I´ve seen that are 100 % vectorial ;
which program is used to animate the small men ?

No clue… it could be a number of programs… from 3d programs, to regular animation programs, it could be flix too I suppose. Not 100% sure what flix does.

The walking was created using Poser (software) where each frame was imported into Flash.

It is a tedious process, and demands many, many frames in order to achieve the human, natural walk. We probably could have spent many more hours polishing everything, but you know, we have to help our clients to make a living too…btw; the man’s name is Pixel Pete, our virtual Director of Peoplepower…lol

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Arnie

But if you don’t mind, would you mind if I wrote a tutorial for kirupa on the effect? I would like to know before I actually do it.

Not at all…=)

Feel free to copy the effect (afterall, that’s the beauty of the Internet…sharing ideas and easy access to new and cool stuff). Let me know if you need any help in writing the tutorial. I’ll connect you to the right person in our organization.

Yes, I will definitely refer to your site in the tutorial.

I won’t need any help, I have the effect down, I just need to get screenshots and write it up :slight_smile: Thanks for the offer though, it was very gracious of you :slight_smile:
