And when double clicking on the transition movie clip I get one small raw with red P’s… How does one gain those? And what do they do?

Those are frame labels. You can link to a frame targetting its label or just use them to better organize your movie.
To label a frame, select the frame and on properties panel, fill the ‘frame label’ field.
