Flash MX is really starting to piss me off. I try to make a tween. As soon as I do then it turns it into a motion tween when I don’t want it to. I pull down the pull-down and choose None. Then, the tween isn’t there anymore! This is really getting me mad. Please help!

Umm… The tween isn’t there anymore. I choose none as in, no tween action. I can’t fade either.
In order to do a shape tween, neither object can be a symbol. If you are using text, break it up by hitting CTRL B.

Well if you chose None, then or course there will be no tween, and if you are trying to fade something out, then you need a motion tween for that, and on the last keyframe you will need to set it to the alpha setting you want.
