So I’m a computer programmer working for an engineering company (at the moment anyway…) We make (made) engineering and drafting automation programs as well as internet applications. Due to the terrible construction market, they’ve laid about 1/3 of the company off today.
Half my department was laid off, including two of my best friends. I’m still here, but who knows for how long. Since my job isn’t essential (I don’t actually engineer or draft anything) I’m not feeling all that secure.
So… it’s time to find another job!
This will actually be the first time I actually look for a “real” job. When I started my current job I was still a college student and was only working part time. I’m now full time (and married) and I’ve just recently graduated from college with a BS in CS.
Does anybody have any advice for finding local computer programming jobs? I’ll be brushing up/rewriting my resume as soon as I get home today, and then I’ll start looking. I live in the state capitol, so there are lots of state jobs available so I guess I’ll look there, not sure where else to look though…
Any ideas?
