I really need a new career. Once again I’ve been informed that since “the economy is bad” I’m going to have to work all weekend (unpaid of course) or I may lose my job (I may lose it anyway apparently).
After the 30th time of hearing “If we don’t see significant progress by (insert incredibly short deadline here) we are probably going to have to let some of you go” it’s really NOT helping our moral. I just don’t give a ■■■■ anymore. So now instead of working hard, I’m ranting on the Kirupa forum.
I understand the idea of “crunch time” and that with deadlines approaching we need to work extra to get stuff done. I’m fairly certain that “crunch time” isn’t supposed to last 5 months though! I’ve been working late pretty much everyday and also nearly every weekend. I really glad you “appreciate all our efforts” but you have a pretty crappy way of showing it.
All of it unpaid overtime of course. In Oregon computer programmers and software engineers are exempt from overtime pay. Yay! I need a change in careers. I’m not cut out for this work yourself to death for the chance to get laid off stuff. Wish they would’ve mentioned that in high school and college when I was choosing what career I wanted to pursue…
What should I do? I have a degree in computer science and I enjoy programming but I am seriously consider changing careers.
