Sound Design

Hello architects of the internet.

My last post after many years of not being on here was catching up, and while I don’t make websites anymore, I have been doing something- Music!

I use Logic Pro X to make music, and actually make a lot of things from scratch. I finally transitioned to creating electronic music, using my own drum samples to create a custom beat sound. Sometimes I sample drums as well and use them together, but mostly my own sound is applied.

I’ll share some of my recent songs to see if anyone is into it here:

Sounds good. I can definitely picture some video game sound tracks there

Nimbus reminds me of amanita design audio. I really like their games.

For example this, seems to be a remash of sounds from “Botanicula”? https://soundcloud.com/kunstparkost/botanicula

this seems to be the game?

That’s interesting, I have never heard of this company or game, but maybe I should apply there. That’s a peculiar thing because I had some pilsner urquell around the time I made that song.

I use a lot of different plugins and effects with the electronic music lately, but try to keep it unique by searching for free plugins online that aren’t popular yet. Otherwise everything ends up sounding the same, but I did use live drums for that one as well.

Its funny how that happens sometimes. Theres a company that makes cell games that i have unknowingly fallen in line with too. I made a prototype game in 2006 that i abandoned, they released a similar game years later. Im now working on what i thought was a pretty unique game, well that same company has a game like that one too! The concept is so similar that i now have to work to not “copy” them.

They are unique games too, not just a standard clone idea like most mobile games.

Anyway, me and their game designer must think alike.

Yeah it helps to know a lot of different styles of music, art, and gaming to notice those similarities. I like a lot of video game music, but as far as listening to the soundtracks themselves it would mostly be stuff from Squaresoft, now Square Enix, so mostly Nobou Uematsu, although I’m starting to think he’s a little overrated. Actually I have noticed a lot of video game sound effects sounding similar, I mean over the course of 10-20 years even. It’s like they are recycling sound effects at times, which is another reason I try to keep an original sound.

This music sounds really nice! I almost exclusively listen to ambient music while working - think Amethystium, Enigma (his more mellow/instrumental things), Tycho. I’ll have to add yours to the circulation.

Jeehun Hwang is someone you may really like if you haven’t already been listening to him. He created the soundtrack for a bunch of my favorite games like Mechwarrior. Here is an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdADQpEf9n0
