Stupid white men

“was not met with much opposition”. “Much” is subjective… not a fact.

I’m sorry that you have an ignorant father in this regard. Believe me, I’m in the same boat with you. At least 5 times in the past I have had to say to my father “sorry, but you and I are not going to see eye to eye on this. We should talk about something else, maybe have a beer.”

If you want to be difficult then ask him to read MM’s book and list specificaly that which is a lie, and what proof he has to that conclusion. Of course you’re just as likely to get a backhand with some fathers. You have to know your battles. Some, like ones with our parents, are both not useful, and can be more damaging than just keeping it to ourselves.

well, majeye, if you pm me your adress, ill send you a copy. its in english, but dont talk too loud about it… :pirate:

the question only is the costs…

AG John Ashcroft faced a ton of opposition for race related issues. He opposed the appointment of a African American MO judge, was against some sort of desegration program when he was AG of MO, opposition to a African American voter registration program, and improper fund raising. In the end, he isn’t as bad was what Moore paints him. After doing some research into this, he promoted numerous pro-African American causes. It is just that Moore enjoys exaggerating a negative issue in someone more so than going after facts. Michael Moore’s books are fact - he backs them up from fairly reliable sources. My qualm is that he takes only one side of an issue and runs with it.

I like his less sensationalized movie “Big One”. It is strange that Borders/B&N aren’t carrying his books. In the “Big One”, Michael Moore was hailed as a savior of the Borders/B&N employees. In the end, it is all about politics and personal views. I did enjoy the last chapter that went above Bush/Republican bashing and to why Al Gore lost the election. His comparison of MLK/Gandhi-like solutions to the ME crisis was interesting. Overall, his socialist, anti-corporation message gets annoying after a while…considering most of his work is produced/published by larger corporate underwriters. Moore appeals to leftists just as much Sean Hannity appeals to rights. He is good at reporting the stories of the left, but I would never say he is an objective reporter.

If one were to read Michael Moore’s book, Sean Hannity’s book, and Ann Coulter’s book (all the three are not objective writers), there are great viewpoints presented that may help to get a more complete picture of what really goes on. Often times, we must read books on opposing viewpoints. It is more fun to read a book with whose views appeal to you, but it is better to read different views to stay more aware of all the views in the world. Reading only Moore’s book as a basis for understanding the US will only verse you in one side of events. This is like reading Jakob Nielsen’s book on Web Usability and leaving with the opinion that Flash is the worst program ever…which it…isn’t :ub:

Majeye, I think amazon.com stocks it.

Cheers!

I’ll admit that’s the truth Kman… though I don’t find too many writers these days who don’t do this. Occationaly I come across one, but more often than not, books are filled with semi or fully bias opinions.

i like your thoughts though. You’re correct. Read all view points, even if they piss you off. At least you’ve learned what the opposition’s arguemets are, if nothing else.

true, how true…
