The "Alien" Quadrilogy gripe from a major fan

Ok we all know and love the “Alien” films right? I myself rank as a very big fan but there is one film that seems out of place and I’m not sure if anyone else feels the same.

Alien Resurrection is, I believe, the only film that doesn’t fit with the rest. Why? Because its an attempt at simply making more money - not telling a story. Don’t get me wrong its a nice little yarn, Ripley brought back by evil military people and scientists (oh the head scientist guy is the voice of CHUCKY from the Childs Play films if you didn’t know) by the magic of genetics. How disappointing. Ripley is dead and it should have stayed that way. The series ended perfectly with number three where she heroicly commited suicide - not only finding peace from the aliens but finally denying The Company their greatly sought after prize…which they had been after a specimen for around 60 years.

Why did they have to bring back Ripley in such a weak, simple and uninteresting way? Given the recent debate of genetic cloning in recent times I’m disappointed they chose to latch onto this idea and use it to generate money. I think they ruined a rather excellent series.

And now I hear that they’re planning another film after the release of the expected plotless, digtal-effects-for-the-sake-of-having-them Alien vs. Predator. Ok fine, people was special effects extravagansas but personally I could live without it to save an already spoilt series. Not only this but the new film (Alien 5 NOT Alien vs. Predator spin off) is rumoured to be looking out for Arnold Schwartzeneggor or however you spell it! C’mon the guy can’t act any less wooden than the tree in my garden.

I am thoroughly disappointed at this lack of creative imagination and at the film industry as a whole. I hope I am not the last of a dying breed who would rather have character and plot and creativity drive a great film than the mass marketted, get-rich-quick dullard catering for the unfortunate brain-drain masses.

Here endeth the lesson…

Man I can complain can’t I? I should have a career singin the blues!!

In my opinion, the crappiest of the 4 is Alien³. I don’t know… I just think it’s bad. Poor acting performances, stupid story, wrong set… meh. I know there were a lot of problems during the making of the third film, but for me, this is the one that is just wrong.

Resurrection is indeed an attempt to make more money, but the actors and the sets and everything else make it much more credible than Alien³.

Just pretend everything after the third movie doesnt exist. Even if you go see them.

Never was a big Alien fan so I’ll use Highlander as a reference. There is the first movie, then it ends! I know there were others made after it and even a tv series, Ive seen them all, but to me it ended with the first movie. I refuse to acknowledge the existence of anything past that. Garbage I say!

Its nice here in my altered reality. Magenta skies, kittens can fly, and lollipops grow on trees.

WOOHOO!!

Easy now. Your talking about my idol

I dont know chief. I kinda liked the fourth alien. I think its just because I love those cuddly little acid bleeding Xenomorphs so much. I was just pumped to see a new one.

The Alien VS Predator thing dosent catch my interest. I mean yeah Freddy VS Jason did, but I think you can all figure out why

I would actually like to see a fifth one. But I dont think my boy arnold should be in it. You know he would wipe out the whole planet of the friggin things if you put him in the flick.

Just leave that ugly arse Mrs. Weaver out of the series. That nappy headed fraggle has got to go.

I liked all the alien movies. Each are very reflective of the times in which they are made and I think as a trilogy, in that respect, its a great collection. Resurection is actually one of my favorites (or the one I watch the most at least). It did seem like a stretch, but I think it was a worthy approach. Besides, how many movies, by the 4th sequal are even as good as that? Have you seen bride of chucky?

The only thing I didnt like about resurection was the design of the monster at the end. I thought it wasn’t up to the standard of the Giger aliens.

What I liked about the Alien series is that each film had its own unique feel to it…Alien was a dark, eerie and in many ways classic “haunted house” horror (the winding corridors of an old house and a ghost are cleverly replaced and updated with a huge, maze-like ship and a rather unfriendly xenomorph).

Aliens had its fast-paced adrenalin and military stylings. By far I think this is the best movie.

Alien 3 was designed from the outset to be the end of the saga ending in Ripleys death, which had a very desolate and saddened tone to it. I think many people didn’t understand it because it was supposed to be wrapping up all her life events. Cpl D.Hicks dead, Bishop disconnected and her second attempt at motherhood cut unfortunately short with the drowning of Newt.

Wow when you think about it I’d have to say that percentage wise this series had the most deaths. 6/7 dead in alien, around 15/18 dead in aliens and 24/26 dead in alien3 and only around 4 survivors in Resurrection. **** thats a high percentage of deaths.

Oh and another thing ****it - Ripleys line to Jones the cat “and you, you little **** - you’re staying here” What happened to the poor cat?!

yeah senocular you’re right man, can anyone name a good 4th sequel? I sure as hell can’t. Some bad ones spring to mind though. Robocop (which should have been left at one), Bride of Chucky (thanks for pointing that one out senocular), Batman and Robin (got stupid and too comic-book with the introduction of Jim Carey in number 3)…

anyone got any more?

I can think of a great 4th!

Of course they wrent any where near to being the final chapter but good bloody and violent none the less.
