how do you guys make your web site, im lookig at mine and it does not even come close to how you guys make it. i have 5 pages worth of drawings on how everything will look (keeping my fingers crossed) but is there a better way.
i open up paint brush, make up textures, boxes, forms, and all the kind of stuff… then i end up with something cool like this :beam:
each time i plan to do a webpage it sucks
when I least expect a moment of creativity I come up with something sweet…
What I hate is each time you manage to do something decent you’re always moving on and uptading to a better version: that means my site has benn ‘under construction’ for the third time a year…
I draw stuff sometimes… sometimes its random
I’m already drawing up my version 2 design, and my first one isnt even up yet… lol
but yeah… its different for everyone… theres no “best” way
alex each page takes too long to view…but i just cant think of how to do my site
i would say that if your sketching 1st thats the best place to start
process we use is something like this…
brief from client followed by a brainstorming session…
sketching of designs
at this stage careful planning of the project would be taken into consideration for technologies used
i.e. how r we going to build it - flash v html v whatever
you can add notes to your inital sketches to give you an idea of how the coding is going to be structured
once the decision has been made, for a flash project we would do the following
start putting the initial sketches in to actual work using freehand
we use freehand bcoz it is great for presenting visuals to a client either in printed or pdf format and the obvious integration with flash
once the visuals have been approved and signed off the next stage is actually building the project
all of the content for the project is collected… doesn’t always work like this as clients seem 2 4get things he he…
optimisation of images, sound etc.
through the sketching/notes stage we would have an idea of how we would be structuring the site.
we would make an initial whole page as it were to b displayed and from there cut and paste in to new movies various parts of the site - this way you have exact positioning for your levels
start coding menus etc.
test as we go - always…
nothing worse than getting so far down the line to find that it doesn’t work
producing content that is going to be loaded in and out of the same level is simply a case of file/saveas with a new name replacing the content - saves a lot of time…
as far as naming conventions go it is always something relevant to the particular swf - handy 4 someone else going behind you
popul8 site…checking file size ALL of the time…
too many ppl design sites and seem to 4get that the majority of ppl are still on a 56k…
on2 test site for client to reference…
Q.C. work at all times - saves having to make changes l8r
time = money etc.
milestones are set during a projects lifespan and when these targets are met we get them signed off - that way you dont fall in2 a he said/you said situation
from here final upload to clients server…
we keep a word document to hand with names of movieClips, levels they would be sitting on etc. - saves time for any future reference on an upd8 4 example…
hope this helps…
wow…very very good info!
