Malcom Glazer. A name that will cause any Manchester United Football Club fan to turn red in the face and start getting very aggressive. It is this man that could see the a once mighty empire crumble to nothing more than a mid-table premiership battler.
Lets get things clear from the start. I am NOT a Man Utd supporter. In fact i support the great LEEDS UNITED FC and would love to see Man Utd fall in a heap. But not in this way. Not by selling their souls to a man who is only interested in profit margins and not football. Glazer’s no Roman Abramovic. Roman used his own money to bankroll Chelsea to a Premier League Title (and good on 'em) but Glazer is putting the pressure on the Man Utd players. If they fail to perform the club is in deep, deep trouble. Just one year without Champions League football would no doubt see the club’s debt sky rocket.
Promises of 25 million pounds for transfers are ridiculous. There is no possible way the club can pay off the debts that it has aquired under Glazer and still have the money to buy players of the highest quality. Over the next few years, who knows, we may be saying toodle ooo (good bye) to the likes of Ruud van Nistleroy, Alan Smith (hope he comes back to LUFC), Christiano Ronaldo and the other names that have taken Man Utd to the pinnacle of English, European and World Football.
All i can say for the whole matter is that it is sad. If this is the way football is heading then i’m sorry but i dont think i will be able to call myself a fan for much longer. Football should belong to the fans, the public, and not just an elite group of idiots (Roman excluded) who are only in it for their own financial gain. I fully support any measures (except violent ones) that the Man Utd fans take in an attempt to tell Mr Glazer and Co. that their club and football as a whole are not for sale.
