I’ve been doing some family research which has involved a lot of historical digging around. And, seeing how much has changed in the past 300 years and how quickly, this got me thinking about what’s likely to change in the future.
So, how about creating a Kirupa Time Capsule where we predict what’s likely to happen in the next 50 years.
- What major scientific or medical discovery will be made?
- What will be the greatest invention created between now and 2057?
- What major news event will occur in August 2057?
I’ll kick off with:

I don’t think we’ll discover alien races or life outside our planet within this timescale so I suspect the biggest breakthroughs to be in the field of medicine. I predict that the first artificial organ (most probably the liver) will be created entirely from donor cells harvested from the patient, and successfully transplanted back into the patient without the need for anti-rejection drugs.

Will we discover how to recreate atomic fusion? Maybe…but I think the greatest invention will probably be some new kind of transportation that doesn’t rely upon fossil fuels. There will probably be other more mundane inventions such as food that cooks itself when you pull a tab, or press a button, on the packaging.

Fingers crossed, the headline might read “Man Takes First Steps On Mars”. Then again, it could also read “Chinese Forces Advance In Global War: Sydney Surrenders To General Zhu Changhu”
