To all you tablet users

So the last 2 days I’ve spent searching around (here and the web), reading up about tablet PC’s and just tablets in general. I was using the laptop thread on here for reviews and what not (can’t find it now), but anyways, I was wondering, to some of you that have tablets/tablet PC’s, is it really worth it?

I primarily would be using it for graphics/illustrations and one thing I noticed is that there are some (in most cases a $1k difference) where you can draw directly on the screen and there are some that you draw on a flat black board. Personally, I would rather draw on the actual screen, however I would like to hear from people that have done both and know which they prefer.

The options I had been considering were the Wacom’s, [URL=“http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_can_series.do?storeName=computer_store&category=notebooks&a1=Category&v1=Mobility&series_name=tx2500z_series”]HP tablet PC, and [URL=“http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/na/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:category.details?current-catalog-id=12F0696583E04D86B9B79B0FEC01C087&current-category-id=329576204C9E42289967E79E0E7C9A2D”]Lenovo Tablet PC (there was also the [URL=“http://www.dell.com/tablet?s=bsd&cs=04”]Dell, but I’m not too fond of Dell, had some pretty bad experiences with them).

One thing that draws me away from the Tablet PC’s is the WAAAAY out of date components that are in it, especially for the price. On the Wacom’s, I do like the Cintiq’s however, the [URL=“http://www.wacom.com/intuos/”]Intuos and [URL=“http://www.wacom.com/graphire/index.cfm”]Graphire are so much cheaper at the expense of not drawing directly on the screen. Anyways, I read reviews for all of these, but I was looking for some insight from some of you that use them regularly. And if you were wondering, I’d like to stay in the < $1500 price range.

Thanks ahead!

I don’t guess anyone on here uses a tablet? :look:

I have a Wacom Intuos 3. It was an awesome investment. It allowed me to win 6 out of my 9 designs on www.threadless.com . That’s 6 x $2,500 = $15,000. It slightly speeds up Photoshop image retouching and speeds up illustration about 10 fold.

Do not buy Wacom’s cheaper Bamboo (which replaced their Graphire line). It has lower precision, both in terms of resolution and pressure.

I have no experience with the Wacom Cintiq, which allows you to draw on the screen, but If I were to guess, it would be closer to the performance of a tablet PC - which is to say it does not have enough precision for serious designers.

Tablet Pcs are not worth it period. For a number of reasons, including weak specs, and a host of other things. Its much more practical to just buy a Wacom or something similar.

Basically all you need is a wacom. The more expensive cintiq and other tablet pcs are a waste of money. The only benefit of them that i can see is to impress the ladies with your shiny gadgetry.

no you don’t say!:stare:

Okay, so apparently Intuos it is. Got any suggestions on size?

I have a Intuos 2 Wacom tablet and I also love to use my Portege M200 Tablet PC from Toshiba … either way - both are good if you like to illustrate … the Intuos is better for more detailed/finished work …
