To anyone with the continuous scrolling button issue

http://actionscript-toolbox.com/sampletextscroller.php

its wonderful

Yeah, you can also do it in MX with the new fangled onEnterFrame = function() dynamic clip event handler.

It rocks

You don’t need to use the default buttons in the common library. Nor do you need to use those stupid components. I can’t stand those clients who want those ■■■■ components, just to remain “consistant” with the rest of the internet. What the hell is this consistancy issue?
And what makes these marketing geniuses the kings of the ■■■■ internet?!?!?
Who invents these ■■■■ generalities and why do I need to conform to them…
There are thousands of BETTER WAYS TO DO THIS!!!

I am sorry.
I digress.

The tutorial never says you have to use the default buttons in Flash.

It just gives you the code you can use on the buttons you have made.

They used the defaults because frankly, why waste time creating whole new buttons for your tutorial demonstration, when you can just grab some premade ones right away?

As for the scrollbar component, it is great for non-coders of Flash, but you are right, there are better ways to do it (the scrollbar component actually boosts your file size quite a bit).

THANK YOU lostinbeta

“As for the scrollbar component, it is great for non-coders of Flash, but you are right, there are better ways to do it (the scrollbar component actually boosts your file size quite a bit).”

I NEEDED to hear that!

Yeah, but like I said there, it is great for people who don’t code flash, but design in Flash. Making a scrollbar like the scrollbar component requires quite the bit of coding knowledge.

Scrolling up and down doesn’t take much, but the scrollbar component has an auto-sizing scrollbar in it, and you can click on the track to jump ahead like on your browsers scrollbar.

Of course this can be done with a custom made scrollbar, but the coding of that is… well… wow.

The component has it’s ups and downs. At least there is a purpose for it, unlike the dreaded preloader component (now that is one component I hate).

Also with the scrollbar component, you can use AS FStyleFormats to change the colors of the component making it customized more.

So I don’t hate the component, but I do recognize that there are other more original ways to go about using a scrollbar.

I say, if you use ANY components you must first use the preloader. I even use it. You must conform! and preloader is the BIGGEST comminality(if that is a word) on the internet!
Just ask those ■■■■ marketing *ssholes!

*edited for television.

lol, I like that “you must conform” remark.

Frankly I would prefer NOT to use components. It is better to learn how to code it yourself. I am a coder though, it is easy for me to say that.

■■■■ idiotic self absorbed control freaked ‘advertizing specialists’ are complete idiots!

■■■■!

I feel better now.

excuse me ? Where do I find the preloader component ?

Go to macromedia site and download the latest updates, There are several of them, including components and some new common library stuff

i learned my lesson with components after i had some trouble with the preloader component. After lost put me onto the wonder of do-it-yourself i was convinced that components are like day old donuts… GARBAGE

LOL… day old donuts…LOL. I like that.
