Transformers: A Review that Meets the Eye

Ok, I grew up with Transformers and quite possibly have the largest collection out there next to some of my friends … well ok maybe not the largest but by god I’ve known Transformers for my whole life and when I caught word of the film about 2 and a half years ago - I’ve been waiting for this day for quite some time.

I purchased 2 advanced tickets to go see Transformers (one for me, and one for my incredible fiance that actually will accompany me to any of my boyhood/child dream movies such as this) and we went with high hopes. Let me just say that those high hopes were not only met, but exceeded in such a way that I can’t even begin to describe.

The movie was amazing! As said in another review that I read before going to see the film tonight: “thank you Michael Bay for not destroying my childhood” … that’s how good it was.

I will say this - you have to go in with an open mind and let yourself get caught up in the story and that some of this could actually happen - if you are a person who goes into films expecting something to always be “real” and play out as if it could actually happen - then I’m going to have to ask you to shut up and go watch something else. This movie is meant to be viewed by everyone who is willing to give up 2 and a half hours of their life to be emersed in action, adventure, comedy, and drama - yes even drama. The movie was amazing and some of the best acting I’ve seen out of a Michael Bay film to date.

First off - let me just say that Shia Labeauf is becoming one of today’s best actors and he sells it so well in this film. He is able to make you feel exactly what he feels, and you totally believe that the robots are there staring right at him. It’s amazing how well he pulls off trying to act out all these scenes which are obviously shot in front of props and green screens, but he does it so well that you never even notice.

The rest of the sleu of actors and actresses in this film pull off great jobs in performance but Shia definately steals the show - and rightfully so. I would go into detail on everyone, but I don’t want to type that much.

Now, the CG - oh my lord the CG is terrific. There has definately been a new bar set with the amount of accuracy and portrayal that this film has accomplished to try and bring these robots to life. From everything from explosions, to the Transformers actually transforming from anything ranging from a old camaro, to new camaro, to a jet, a semi, a charger police car - you name it they do it. They did such a good job that you just loved to see each and everyone one of them change over and over again. Not only that - but as I mentioned before, the CG interaction with the real life actors and enviornment was downright sick!

The story was believable but a little hard to follow at times - especially because they changed some of the names around from the original Transformers adaptations, and added a few characters here and there - but the heart of it all is still there. And you root on and on for your Autobot buddies!

Overall I’ll give this movie a 9.8 out of 10 and I have to discredit a few pts. due to some loop holes in the story that they didn’t tie up and some things that they just sort of left out there that really should’ve at least been touched on before the film came to a close. Sure they are trying to hold out for a sequel and I get why certain aspects were left out - but there is a part (this won’t give anything away) dealing with the secretary of defense and some other people that they just don’t say anything else about once that scene is over, we never go back to them and find out “ummm what happend to so and so” etc. etc. Stuff like this is very minimal and not a big deal, but to be a flawless movie it should’ve been touched on briefly to just tidy it up.

I wish I could say more - but its past 12 midnight here and I have to get to work tomorrow. If anyone is second guessing whether or not you should see this film - don’t. It is by far the best film I’ve ever seen. It has something for everyone and you will be amazed at how fast the time flies by when watching it.

To sum it up, if my fiance (who hates anything sci-fi/fantasy related) can rate it even in her top 10 favorite movies of all time - then by god, go give Transformers a chance and you will see that there is more than meets the eye.
