Hey dont you find that 99% of tutorials suck they say an rpg tutorial on flash kit it will teach you how to walk and have an iventory but it wont teach you all the stuff like a combat system or a health system sho system mony system etc ect
I say we make a site with good game tutorials like how to make a racing game ALL CONCEPTS OF IT!!!

It will have the flas for it and the tutes will be v.graphical

Errr maby you should learn yorself Are you good graphicaly in flash or other apps, im interested because skilled in programmin and not so graphicaly. If so maby we could co-op
they make them like that for a reason man. The things they teach u in the tutorials can be applied to a hundred other things in the RPG game, ie: hitTest, one of the most versitile pieces of code in flash. You learn how to hitTest a wall then u can use it to test if ur attacking an enemy, if ur being hit, if ur in water, if ur falling etc etc. Its up to you to utilise the code and learn it so u can understand wot it duz and use it in other places. If there were entire FLA’s out there from plaforms, rpgs, racing games etc etc we would be bombarded with hundreds upon hundreds of the same game with different graphics, because n00bs would steal the code and use their own sprites.
Yet another shining example of someone who wants all the work handed to them on a platter, so they can just add/change a few things, and call it their own.
Yup.
lastchance i can pixel art ( but i need a crack for photoshop 7 !) and i can animate and script a bit in flash and u guys r rite if u wanna learn actionscript DO IT URSELF
last chane add me to msn if u have or post a message wanna make a game?
Dude, don’t mention cracking/piracy on this forum; like in most forum, it’s a bannable offense… especially when you start threads like ‘whatever sucks’
If the tutorials are too easy for you than go find other ones, I’m sure some people appreciate the tutorials and the input by those who wrote them…
and besides, it looks like you want to create one RPG game with graphics & all, well guess what, tutorial are supposed to teach you the general handling of things… grow up man.
I learned what I know through tutorials and books and its enough to know how to make a basic game… or a few different types of basic games… and since I started flash and actionscript flashkit has been a very helpful tool… so get it straight kid and start learning stuff if you dont know how to program scrap your ideas for a game and start off simpler.
ya know…i almost agree with what he said on tutorials…alot dont help because its real hard to find what your looking for. i spent 2 days at about 5-7 hours scanning the internet for tutorials on how to do a game like i was making…and found not one tutorial that helped me to begin…lucky for me i found this forum …and then read almost everything on it…and then peace by peace put something together…and i also asked for help on the forum and every one was kind enough to help…but i would never ask some one to help me make a game then never help them make my game. and i see that alot too…but thats how you learn man little by little
I hear you loud and clear Bahamut. What I found, I start a number of different little projects. Most never get finished. But they all focus on something different. Like I did a small side scrolling game. It worked. I learned how to do that. Then I made a little dynamic tournament bracket thing, and it worked, and I learned arrays front and back.
Now I am making an RPG that is coming along nicely (still coding the engine) but I am implementing everything I took the time to learn before. That way, I also already knew what I could have done better, and pitfalls to avoid.
For example, not to use mouse movement in your RPG. It sucks so much processor power, the game gets laggy when it scrolls.
i totally agree with you 100% tuts are not that helpful they teach you the full concept of building games most of them assume that you are an expert in AS and dont go into detail explaining why use that line of cod and not the other.
i may not be that good at all with the scripting but i am really good at graphics so i would love to contribute…just let me know when how where and am there.
Tutes usually do not help me one bit. I bought a book on programming called “Flash MX games - ActionScript for Artists” It goes through every small part, as if you know nothing. It is a good way to understand Actionscript =).
I’m noticing the level of posts that each side has - People who agree with the first statement have a low number of posts - 13, 19, 43, etc… most of the people who disagree have been around a lot longer - 3,171, 2,039, etc… coincidence?
Well… the best way to learn programming in flash is not by trying to make some huge game… it is much, much better to learn the basics first. In other words, learn actionscript, not how to make a particular game. I would suggest a book called Macromedia Flash MX 2004 Game Programming- I used it, it taught a lot about basic flash, but also how to apply that knowledge to different types of games.
man… when i was little… i beta tested for microsoft… i got all the windows uprades and office for free… i couldn’t afford photoshop… but i was whipping away on image copmposer(… Yeah!) and PhotoDraw… don’t steal man… its gives you an unfair edge… just cause some of us can’t afford it and we have morals… plus, tutorials give you a idea… not the whole amswer… that why thet are there… and by bashing on them… you slap everyone one in the face who made a tutorial( which mostly are secrets that they gave up for a greater good)… go grow up and gain some respect for these flashmasters… I do… Big Props to ya’ll!
