Unique fire help needed

Hello all, this is my first time posting.
I am relatively new to flash, and have faired well by myself so far, but now I am utterly stuck. What I have is two pictures, one in color, the other a near mirror image, but in black and white. The effect I am going for would be something along the lines of have a flame effect that followed the cursor and burnt off the top image, or just a area to click and have the top image burn off. I have scoured the net in search for some help or direction, but havent found any, can anyone help me???

the easies (most n00b way) would be to break apart the image and make each on into an MC. Then when the mouse hits it make it fade away.

cant break the image apart…i would have to chop it into a million peices in photoshop and repaste them one by one in flash to do something like that… and its not really the effect im looking for… i want the flame to travel on the image… just like setting a picture on fire… any suggestions?

You can break the image apart within flash.

modify -> break apart

keep breaking apart until the image is individual pixels.

TD

its a bitmap… and when i try to break it apart, nothing happens, no matter how many times i do it, it just selects all…

maybe an effect like the paper being burned from underneath might work, like the image being eaten away in circular pater, like photo paper burning or something, im totally stuck on how to do anything like these two ideas

you’re not going to be able to do what you want like that. Its not an easy effect to create.

i realize its not easy, thats why im here
i just was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction or had any suggestions on a way to do this, i dont need imediate results and am more than willing to spend some time working on it… thanks for your help tho

I gave you an idea. Break the image apart, then using the select tool, select a small sqaure of the image that is broken apart. Make it into a movieclip and then fade it out when the mouse touches it. Something like that would work. It wouldn’t be the exact effect you are looking for, but Flash doesn’t make fire very realistically…

I deleted your other post, no need to post the same question twice.

i added it there incase anyone know a action script that might automate it… unless all the AS guys also check here, shouldnt i also post the quesiton there? im looking for any source i can

you only need to post the question once.

also i cant break the image apart, unless some one knows away to break a bitmap apart in flash. It wouldnt let me do it, but I also could be missing something, lemme know if there is a way to do it, thx

select the image. Press Control+B twice. Then you can use the Select tool to select squares from the image.

i didnt work for me… i dont think im doing anything wrong… its a png, i made it in fireworks…i cant attach it, its too big, but if you want, i can email it… if you want to see if im insane or not

you’re doing it wrong. You can’t click on the image itself to select smaller pieces. You have to click on the stage to de-select the image, then you have to click on the stage again, and drag a box around a small part that you want to select.

ahhhh, thx
i know this is a newbie question, seeing that I am a newbie, but then I make each peice a movie clip, and then i have to arange the clips bank in order to make the picture look whole again right?

yeah. I know its a pain, but Flash doesn’t have a very easy way to create a fire effect and to script something like that would be pretty difficult also…

thanks alot for all your help.
I have another question about making an animated gif i have the cursor(its a flame, who woulda guessed). should i post it in anohter thread for others to see?

yeah go ahead.
