Using a preloader with a single SWF file - help!

Hello everyone,

I’m racking my brain over this problem and I’ll appreciate any help I can get.

I’m basically trying to implement a preloader using only one SWF file. All of the advice I’ve read (inlcuding this [COLOR=#333333]http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/ar…ucture_04.html[/COLOR]) tells me to:

  1. Put the preloader code in the frame 1
  2. Uncheck “Export to first frame” on all symbols in library
  3. Put all needed symbols, etc. in frame 2

I’ve done all of those steps and what happens is: I’m able to create the symbols in my code but they don’t show up on the screen.

I’ve attached a very small and simple FLA example. There’s only one symbol in the library. If you check “export in first frame”, it shows up. If you uncheck it, it doesn’t show up.

Please help, this is giving me a major headache!

Bw: I’m using Flash CS3, Version 9, Actionscript 3.0
