yeah, squeeze is very good for compressing video. I have been using it for two years now and my teacher’s at school recommend it for video compression, however it is not cheap anymore.
to get best quality for progressive download use those parameters in Squeeze:
Combined datarate 1200kbps
(1104 for video and 96 for audio)
keyframe rate ~60 (depands how long is your video)
1 Pass Baseline
1:1 fps (same as source)
you can adjust those parameters depands if your movie is hi-motion or low motion.
I’ve used Sorenson Squeeze with Flash but I’m not sure if there’s anything else I have to do to make the video actually STREAM. Do you have to export as .FLV in Squeeze or what? And also, how do you import the streaming video into Flash MX 2004 Professional (the version I have).
To really stream your video you need Flash Communication server. Process of delivery is a little bit different. Your video is not loaded progressively to your cache but loaded to your buffer (you can control it’s size). That way your movies are better protected and they start playing immidiately.
Also encoding for streaming is a little bit different. You can’t use VBR for examle for FLVs encoded for streaming.
Look for more info on our site about progressive vs streaming FLVs.
Yes to using Squeeze, I use it all the time because about a year ago we decided to build a flash media tool for our internal and external sites and deliver video and sound via flash rather than any other player. For instance I was given, 2 days ago, an 8 minute 62 meg MPEG to run through Squeeze and make and FLV to run through the flash player. I was able to scale it down in Squeeze to a 5.6 meg file that was just as good as the high quality MPEG. It really did hold up to some custom settings I have in Squeeze.
