I learned in class that sorenson squeeze is the converter for videos to be imported into flash but i was wondering if there is an alternative so I dont have to pay $120 for it? I know it comes built in MX2004 but I want to use MX and import videos… what can i do?
from my limited experience, i found that quicktime pro was a better alternative than flash alone and it’s only like $30. the main benefit was the 2 pass vbr.
anyway, i created an flv and then embedded it into a swf so that it can be seen on vesion 6 players. also, my understanding is that it’s easier to create a preloader (to start after partial download) with swf’s than flv’s. but i dont kno if this is indeed the best method… anyone have any thoughts on this? or can point to a good tute on preloading and controlling videos without using the media components?
well, flash mx and mx 2004 both do good by themselves when importing a video. I agree on embedding into a swf though, it makes things more flexible… My problem was not being able to import .mov files compressed in a certain way (video lingo i dont really remember) so I had to learn how to use codecs etc to recompress my .movs - apparently it’s a bug in flash - a lot af articles on it from macromedia and other places.
again, i personally got much better results using quicktime pro than flash mx 2004 by itself… possibly 5-10 times better quality - not that i can really quantify the difference.
i started with avi’s and not mov’s - not sure if that makes a difference.
