I’m in an odd predicament.
A week ago or so, my Norton anti-virus program stopped working; that is, the icon on my desktop was still there, but the program would not start.
The other day, I left IE open while I was in class (doh!) and a webpage continually popped up, even when i x-ed out one.
I attempted to install AVG and the free Macafee program that my university gives out. But both of the programs stops at some point of the installation and aborts the installation. So, my roommate bought Trend Micro PC-cillin Antivirus 11 for me, and this also stopped at some point during the installation and aborted itself.
I ran an online virus scan on symantec’s website, and the main worm’s/virus’ that popped up were W32.Spybot.Worm and W32.Alcra.F.
Could the aformentioned two be preventing the installation of an anti-virus program? If so, how I go about fixing my problem so that I can install the program?
If you read all the way through, thank you very much.
Any suggestions are more than appreciated.

Google will give you answers (Search: fix #virus name#). Installations failing sounds more of a problem with your computer, if you can point out what exactly is the error that happens every time, we can probably tell you why. Other than that, a simple ‘stopped during installation’ doesn’t give us much of a clue.
I figured that would be a problem. Here’s a lot more information for you all.
AVG (free edition) error during installation:
Error: Action failed for file avgamsvr.exe: creating file…
No such file or directory
2.Trend Micro PC-cillin Antivirus 11 error during installation:
Error 1308.Source file not found: E:/Setup/Program files/Trend
Micro/PC-cillin/pccguide.exe
Verify that file exists and that you can access it
And here are the exact locations of the virus’/worms, detected by Symantec online scanner:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winlog.exe is infected with W32.Spybot.Worm
C:\Program Files\outlook\outlook.exe is infected with W32.Alcra.F
C:\Program Files\outlook\v.tmp is infected with W32.Alcra.F
Let me known if there’s any other information that you need.
Well, after googling them, the only reccomendations i get are to delete them from the registry. fine and dandy, but when i start>run>regedit, the window won’t open (“regedit is not a valid Win32 application”).
so how do i delete something i can’t even access?
Unless i’m overlooking a method of removal that doesn’t deal with regedit, i’m at a complete loss here.
edit:
As a side note, a website mentions that one of the worms i have actually disables regedit and taskmanager.
I ended up going to a forum called The Tech Guys.
I showed them my problem, and they helped me remove the virus.
They are very knowledgable and nice to those who have no idea what they’re doing, such as me.
I highly, highly suggest that if you are having any virus problems you pay these guys a visit. http://forums.thetechguys.com/index.php?
