Just a quick question…
Is it possible for a virus to spread to another drive?
In other words, is it safe to say that my backup drive is safe from any virus that has manifested my primary drive?

I dont know…
But I think the second drive isnt infected…
Just a guess…
Depends on the virus and whether Windows has the backup drive mounted (as in, can you access it by a letter like C:\ or D:) - but in general, yes, a virus can spread across drives.
aw ok. was thinking of partitioning my drives so that if the primary ever gets infected, I could simply format (if it ever comes down to that) the infected drive alone.
That’s exactly what I do. I store all my work files on my partitioned (D:) and just install programs on C. Now, whenever I get a virus, without hesitation, I format C with only minor backups. So far, I haven’t met a virus that spreaded to D or E, but it doesn’t hurt to scan it just in a longer interval.
as nj said it depends on the virus -
for the most part partitioning would help a little, but then again there are viruses that can infect the boot sector -
it’s a good safety measure overall, just another step of prevention
ok thanks a lot for the input, guess there’s no harm making an extra partition.
