This keeps happening because somewhere along the line we decided every object needed to be online. Samsung’s banning these proxy apps, which is good, but the real problem is that a TV app could even do this in the first place.

It makes me think about all the other devices sitting in homes right now that probably have similar vulnerabilities nobody’s found yet. A refrigerator that can talk to the internet doesn’t need to do that. A TV definitely doesn’t.

The proxy app thing specifically bugs me because that’s not even a vulnerability exploit, it’s a sanctioned SDK doing exactly what it was built to do. That’s the part that gets me more than the security angle honestly. Someone shipped that on purpose and it passed review.
