What should I do - Need help with Comp?

Ok need some suggestions:

I recently moved and had a computer with this:

-1 Gig OCZ 3200 DDR RAM
-ASUS Socket 478 P4M800
-3.4 Pentium 4 Prescott
-52x Sony CDRW
-Sony DVD
-ATI 9800 Pro

Due to a power surge I lost the Motherboard and RAM … now I have the processor and old computer parts I had lying around so now I have an alright computer that is this:

-1 Gig of RAM (cheap Kingston crap)
-Gigabyte Motherboard
-2.4 Pentium 4 Processor (this motherboard won’t take my 3.4 Pentium)
-52x Sony CDRW
-Sony DVD
-ATI 9800 Pro

So what should I do? Should I just stick it out with what I have and wait for Vista to come out and buy a new computer then? Or should I use the existing parts that I have and just buy a better motherboard? Or should I revamp and get a motherboard/cpu combo? Should I buy better RAM and a motherboard/cpu ? I think the video card is fine for gaming for now (i can play Doom 3 and NFSMW with all the high specs - on the machine i had before the surge)

Any suggestions? I was thinking about going AMD with a new board but just thought I’d get some expert opinions on what I should do…because when Vista comes out I’ll want all this new stuff so I’m not looking to spend a ton, but just thought I should see if I should even worry about it?..

Thanks
Boon out.

I’d stick it out. Your computer isn’t a clunker yet. If you wait for Vista there will be better parts out and possibly some bundle deals to get Vista cheap.

For beginners, how about a surge protector…?

lol:lol:

Yeah ha ha … had one (the power got turned on and zapped it plus my microwave, the computer, and the fridge … the landlord got me a new microwave and a new fridge, but since the comp. was mine and I didn’t have renter’s insurance yet = too bad for me) … thanks for the sarcastic and not necessary stupid comment.
