I already have a copy of the actionscript “the definitive guide version 1” which is a great book.
I am using flash mx 2004 at the moment not so much of a newbie anymore but what would be the best book to buy the flash mx actionscript “the definitive guide version 2”, or the new Essential ActionScript 2.0.
Well hopefully B&N do have both books as a bundle but they are having a sale of 80% on books anyway the last time I went on their website. The new actionscript book by Moock really concentrates on OOP in his new book, he still intergrates the normal
of course but more programming side of
. If you like to just stick to
in general than perhaps get the 2nd edition of the definitive guide but if not, then try and see if you like EA20 by checking it out at your local B&N store.

Thanks MINIMAISTIK I am trying to learn the OOP side of flash so might go for the Esential ActionScript 2.0 I read a chapter of the expanded the 2nd edition and appears to be showing more parellels between AS and JAVA which is interesting because at somepoint would like to get to know that language as well.
I believe the EA20 is the way to go also might wait a bit then get the 2nd edition in a couple of weeks just to make sure I have the most up to date version, moocks books rock!
If you feel comfortable with learning AS2.0 with OOP then Moock’s new book is very ideal. Once you start playing with it, you would see some familiarities with Java as well. Best of luck
thanks MINIMAISTIK, I have been using the lynda.com training resources which I brought a couple of weeks ago, so I have a hell of a lot of Actionscript training ahead of me and behind me. But if that doesn’t work I might have to ask some questions here
Mr Moock always comes up trumpt when it comes to actionscript the first edition of the essential actionscript book span my head for a while // and I guess the new as 2 will again // it was one of the first books on actionscript i brought I only got to a point recently were I could read it without scratching my head in confusion now its more wow that how that works thats so simple.
I actually recommend ActionScript Cookbook by Joey Lott. It’s an O’Rielly book, like all of Moock’s books, which means that it’s THE best quality of writing you can find. I personally learned more about AS through that book than any other book.
