Which is better XHTML or HTML

Which of the two is more user friendly?

That seems to go against the user friendly-ness of it compared to good ole, forgiving HTML

XHTML is a cleaner version of HTML. HTML is actually outdated. With XHTML follows a slew of improved syntactical rules, such as self-closing brackets.
