It’s really quite simple:
God is Jesus. Jesus is God. Jesus is also God’s son. God is not Jesus’s son, though, because that obviously wouldn’t make any sense. God loves mankind more than words can express, but he also wanted to kill us all because of the actions we commited as a result of the nature he gave us. Jesus decided to offer himself instead, who is God. So God allowed Jesus to be killed, which means he killed himself and his son at the same time but no one actually got killed except Jesus who is God, but isn’t God in the sense that God didn’t die when Jesus did.
Now, if this makes sense to you and you accept it, you’re a good person and will go to Heaven. If this doesn’t make sense to you, you can still be a good person and go to Heaven as long as you write it all off on account of “God working in mysterious ways”. However, if it doesn’t make sense to you AND you don’t allow “God working in mysterious ways” to suspend your confusion, it means you’re a terrible person for not accpting something your human mind and system of logic couldn’t possibly accept even though God-- who loves you more than anything, mind you-- gave you that very mind and system of logic in the first place. And because of that shortcoming he gave you, you’ll have to burn in hell forever, even though he loves you enough to kill his son in your place (who is actually him) which won’t actually prevent you from going to hell if you don’t believe it.
To sum up, our God is an AWESOME God.
