Hey guys. I’ve long thought that it is a bit arrogant towards the End-users to just have a “This site requires Flash 6” message on your splash. Most people have the player installed but what about the few sorry souls that don’t have it, or don’t even know what it is…
Macromedia’s own Flash Player FAQ seems a bit directed towards the Flash-Designers rather than the poor sap who’s just been asked to download and install software…

It’s a FAQ about the Flash Player, how and why to download it and so on.
What I want to ask you guys is this:
Is there anything I’m missing? Q’s that are missing?
Is it being “overly kind”? Do you think it’s a bit of wasted effort?
Would anyone like to use the FAQ? If so I’ll zip the folder with the files and make it available for you to download here, or of course provide a link to the popup if you want to link directly.
wow. thats fantastic! really good. nice and comprehensive. you’re very informative, but manage to avoid being patronising! there are plenty of internet/computer n00bs who would no doubt benefit from reading that. nice work! don’t think there’s anything you need to add…

Has your site got a link to download Flash Player 6? It might be nice if your put a link to a file on your server rather than send confused people to the macromedia site. Well they shouldn’t be confused after reading your site anyway, Great site can I use a link too?
Thats awesome. I will be saving the link so i can direct people to that, at a later date. Very nicely done.
One thing though: on your pop-up window, i think you should remove the html margins so that it will not display a horizontal scrollbar. Do you get what im saying?
Nice site indeed, never saw anything load so fast, well done.
And the faq are good too (one or two typos, check the text…).
Only thing missing then is an “english” button in your site so we can get an idea of what you actually say there

Digitalphilosophy: Yes. Please do. Now that I see there is some interest, I’m going to provide a .zip, a .sit and a script for linking to my popup. My idea here is that I want as many people as possible to use, and expand this FAQ. The only thing I would ask is that you keep the “Original Flash Player Faq by Martin Jacobsen - www.martinjacobsen.no” field at the bottom of the Faq.
Feel free to add to the FAQ or subtract from it. And if you like it as it is… Link to the pop-up on my page.
Ilyas: As I wanted to keep this site simple I used the dreamweaver routine " Verdana, Arial, Sans" This means you are most probably seeing verdana (Which does actually look pretty fly at small sizes. )
Keith: The Macromedia distribution agreement allows you to distribute the player on CD-ROMs but not via the internet. This suits me fine however, because in the FAQ I warn people against downloading software from unreliable soyrces, and I have two links to the Macromedia Flash Player Download…
Majeye: Thank you I would love it if you did. This is an opportunity for us all to prove Dr. Nielsen wrong. Let’s show the public that we do care about the end-users.
As for your tech-comment: Thank you. I made the pop-up on a mac only tested in Safari so far. I will of course test it in all the major browsers on Wintendo ( ) and Mac before I actuallly release it.
MLKDesign: YES!! Please do! I really want this FAQ to grow… Translate it, and add whatever you want to it. But I would appreciate it if you left the “Original Flash Player Faq by Martin Jacobsen - www.martinjacobsen.no” in there somewhere…
Eyezberg: I shall check my typos before I release the source (tomorrow.) I’m sorry that my own site is only in Norwegian at the moment. This is because the site is at the moment fuctioning as my “Please hire me-site”. It’s really ****ty being a norwegian web-guy nowadays, so I have to focus on getting a job. I promise my next site will be in english.
