Ram allocated for windows when it runs out of physical ram (your ram hardware eg… 128meg, 512meg) Its actually your harddrive working as ram if your physical ram gets filled up.

you know what might actually be the problem here your temp folder not windows temp folder the users temp folder winxp has temporary folders where it stores some of the latest data youve used sometimes if you use a cd burning program and choose to make a temporary image file and then burn it to the cd and you do not choose delete image after burn the image file will remain on your pc untill you erase it, in order to view your temp folder you have to go to tools tab and select folder options, once your here go to the view tab and make sure you got a checkmark on the following option: show hidden files or folders.
Once youve done this go to your c: drive, documents and settings,go into the folder with your user name, then go to local settings in here you will find your temporary internet folder and you temp folder empty them both out and dont worry your system wont crash because all the data there is garbage
I tried the local settings thing grim, but didn’t work. I don’t burn many cd’s. How do I tell if I’m using virtual ram?
go to my computer, right click on it choose properties, go to the advanced tab, in the performance tab hit settings, then advanced, you will see it says virtual memory at the bottom and it says the number in bytes of how much virtual ram youre using 1000= 1 gigabyte i have 2000 allocated for virtual ram and 512 or ram i like to work fast, here you can change the amount you want to have for virtual memory
Ive partitioned my second drive and using 500 min to 1000 max just for vitual memory. :beam: currently running 512 ddr (333) physical ram as well.
::planning to get around 1gig and a half more ram in the future
Thanks Grim. I did have it at 768 (2 over the recommended), but if this makes my comp faster, i’ll set it at 2000. What they hey, i’ll sacrifice some storage space to make it faster.
