Thanks senocular. I’l see what I’l come up with…

watch SpaceBalls for inspiration
Wow, house cleaning robots… Pff harder then I thought…:hangover:
ok well I got a couple of hours over the weekend to work on something. I doubt Ill ever get around to it again, so I thought Id post what I got
Since “house cleaning” robots sounded kind of… fruity, I decided to do a “house [of the dead] cleaning” robot take on it. Its a little funky but its kinda supposed to be. Swift cant really handle anything too complicated or anything as garbaged up as I would have liked but with the time I had I figured it serves itself well
eek
man, I haven’t even started any modelling yet. I’ll have to see what I can scrape together
Been working over the last couple of hours and I’ve come up with alot of memory issues in Swift. It can’t really handle too many objects, but I’ve crafted together the base of my robot so far. I crashed too often when I applied more textures so I think this will be as good as it gets… until the final render anyway. I might try and add a couple of textures then! :sigh:
Wow, :beam: It must have taken you guys a long time to make all those objects in the robot! My 64MB ram can barely handle the objects i’m putting in, so i am starting on a much simpler design. I better get working on that robot.
Peut, I really must start the modeling, I designed it on paper already, but not in swift. 25 is nearing fast…
I’d better forget school…
those treads look good ironikart
Wow, this looks really cool Ironikart
Swift really doesn’t handle lots of objects. Mine is crashing way too much. I’ve managed to put the pieces of the robot together a little better by modelling them separately, but It’s not going to get much more complex than it is already. This PC has 128mb RAM and it is suffering… I’ve tried the same thing at home (more RAM, less processing speed) and it still suffers!
Thanks for the comments!
Alright, One to get started again with the program

What version are you using? 3
2 is a POS. 3 is a lot more stable and has a lot of the much needed fixes, not to mention the heirarchy menu (bliss). It still lacks in a lot of fundamental manuverability but it does away with a lot of the problems that persisted in 2 and brings about some nice features such as the importer and raster renders.
I’m using version 3. I found it crashed most when I applied textures. It seems to handle the objects better without the textures.
That heirarchy menu is a godsend! Selecting objects inside other objects is sooo much easier! Still, its not as intuitive as other 3D apps. I suppose you get what you pay for…
ironikart: what kind of video card are you using and what direct x drivers are installed?
This is a Dell Optiplex gx-150 workstation. Not really made for graphics at all… 8mb card and definately not the latest Direct X drivers. Still I use 3ds max alot on this PC and it runs ok.
8mb Card !!!. :!: maybe thats your problem, even though max works fine, i think the minimum requirements for this app is higher than that, especially if your working with textures and complex models.
I’ve finished my model as much as I can for this battle. I always seem to run out of time with a few other projects going concurrently. It’s a public holiday in Australia tommorow so I’m going to post my final submission now:

with all my limitations at the moment it didn’t come out at all like I hoped… but no point in griping.:sure:
