A perfect gift

First of all…

All “men” are created equal…remember the Constitution was written back when “land-owning men” were the only people who counted. It should be ammended to “people” but its not. This is just one example of something simple, that should be changed, but hasn’t…

It is also different nowadays because we aren’t the underdog anymore, we are one of the 7 superpowers now, with veto capabilities, our responsibilities to ourselves and the international community.

The Second Ammendment:

**A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. **

The first 4 words, state 'A well regulated militia", this has been twisted so that, “Every American has the right to bear arms” Where’s the militia in that? We have an established defense in place, and there is no longer a need for every American to bear arms. Guns = Unjustified Violence. What good has this ammendment done for the our country in the past century, other then create meaningless violence. If I were to ammend this ammendment, I would stress, “regulated”, there is no need for assault rifles, or handguns in American homes. Hunting Rifles, serve a purpose.

The 17th Ammendment:

U.S. Senators to be elected by direct popular vote

Why not ammend this to President’s also? This way, Florida voters can’t screw things up. C:-) Where is the need for the Electorial College now? Aren’t the American people the ones who should pick the president? The only thing the electorial college is good for is making a giant mochery of the democratic voting process.

These are just some I can come up with off the top of my head…but I’m sure if I took the time, and read through the rest of them, I can pick them apart, and find exceptions to every rule…I’m not saying that eliminating guns right now will solve all of our problems, but you have to start somewhere. Someone has to set an example that picking up a firearm isn’t the best way of dealing with things. The second ammendment is for you to use your firearm to defend your country. Not take revenge, or your anger out on others. That is what cops are for. Someone does you wrong, you call the cops, not pick up a gun. Someone needs to preach this.

I agree with Lounge all the first two points completely. Not that I would want to remove weapons from anyone’s hands, but I do believe that the people who do own them should be required to prove that they are in a regular malitia organization which meets regularly to train in the safe, and proper use of firearms. I believe that this was and should still be the intent of those words. There are far too many people running around without a frellin clue how to use their weapons. That in my opinion is more dangerous than a cop on the take.

The direct vote for President is just silly. The reason it’s worded that way is to PREVENT a direct vote for the president. Mob rule should NEVER be allowed to dictate the power of this country. It’s a representative republic for exactly that reason. When you allow a direct vote you open the door for really nasty people to take power. That’s not just a fear, it’s been proven, granted on a smaller scale than the American presidency.

As for Florida, Gore lost that election because a minority chose to intimidate a particular class of voter, not because the current system doesn’t work. If you want to prevent that in the future you’re going to have to gather together that malitia that you belong to and defend the rights of voters to an active part in the electoral process.

Oh… and as for Castro… which started this thread. I’d urge people to not be quite so judgemental of the guy. I’m not saying he’s an angel. He’s a fascist leader to be certain. However, he has had a 40 year Shmeer campaign against him. Much of what is said about him is just a load of crap. I think that he has done wonders for his people given the economic strain the US has placed upon Cuba for so long.

I would lift sanctions from his island with the stipulation that he sign a deal stating that he will not EVER have nukes in Cuba again, and that the US (not NATO) has full access to investigate and regulate that rule. (ie. weapons inspectors.) The only reason I say that is that he probebly still has quite a big grudge against the US. I do think that there is a pretty good chance that he would take that deal at this point in time, but I doubt the US would ever give it to him.

All I pretty much have to say about guns is watch the documentary ‘Bowling for Columbine’ if you are at all interested in the topic of guns. Its done great, it argues both sides, being told by Michael Moore (lifetime NRA member) but it will open your eyes on American policies, no matter what side of the gun debate you are on…

even if you just goto the movie’s site and watch a clip video clip…there is a section of it animated by Matt Stone, and Trey Parker…they talk to Charlton Heston, and a lot more people you will recognize…

:x :beam: :x

I second that. And furthermore I’d say that you should watch ANYTHING that Moore produces.
