I’m having trouble on this one…
My teacher has some friends that he knows that make sites, and they have shown interest in getting a student to help them out with some extra work over the summer, and potentially continuing on part-time after that.
He says they do lots of PHP stuff, and a bit of Rails (doubleplusgood). Their site is valid XHTML (wow, it doesn’t look like it!), albeit only transition. It does include some Flash, though, which I hate.
Anyways, it’s a bit awkward, since I don’t want to have to go through my teacher to do it: it’d be better if I had found it independently.
I’m not sure I should link to their website, but let’s say I would describe it as mediocre, but not that bad. It has a lot of ugly elements and bad colors, and a bit cheesy how ready to give their phone number they are, etc… also, despite the validity of their source, it’s actually quite bad, with stuff like,
<div id='container'>
<div id='border'>
<div id='alpha'>
<div id='header'>

Hell, and some stuff that’s worse than a simple case of ‘divitis’ and id names representing style.
Can’t say it doesn’t validate, though.
Anyways, I’m thinking about emailing them independently of going through my teacher. They’ll probably mention it to him, so he’ll know I did it, but they won’t tell him a whole lot of specifics, I suspect (i.e. hope).
I’ll tell them that I do a lot of programming, less of the design, and love Django, but can handle Rails. I have a lot of PHP experience, but strongly advocate against it.
Uh, yeah. Not exactly sure what to do…
