maybe in the future, but right now the world as a whole doesnt put gaming in the realm of sports.
maybe in the future, but right now the world as a whole doesnt put gaming in the realm of sports.
I think that kind of sums it up…
Gaming is gaming, not a sport. Thats why we call it a game.

I guess it just depends on your definition. Playing a video game is as much of a sportas skeet shooting.
But athletic being the key…
fishing is considered a sport, and curling… they aren’t very athletic… And bowling…
Gaming requires one thing more than any other : Cunning… You set your enemies up to die in embarrassing ways at your hands, all with the reisk of being defeated in the same way…
Yes, since an athlete one who has acuired traits that help in a competition.
i read an article about how brain surgery is going to skyrocket in technology, because the upcoming generation has such good eye to tv to hand coordination…
most gamers lack the ability to work as a team, much like half the nba…
a sport though? athlete? no…its just different
You’ve obviously never watched people play Halo on Co-op mode.
haha…thats cause Halo on my PC says its doesnt support my 9700 pro video card…BLAH
or cs
Gaming has everthing it needs to be a sport except physical activity. If there was only some type of body suit for video games, or something similar to holoprojections.
what about virtual realities games,i mean there is more moving around in there rather than just clicking.
i would say no, and why i think that is because games are based on AI and physics set by the game maker and/or programmer, so by that you cannot compare someone who plays computer games to someone who plays the real sport. Atheletes react to real life sport situations, while gamers are only playing a part of a virtual game which is restricted to what the programmers/game makers have allowed the game to do.
gaming is entertainment, sport is sport.
yes thats right game is game sport is sport
when was the last time u hear someone got a sport related injury while playing video game
lol
Ridiculous. You fail to even respond to the point regarding sports that require very little or no physical strength or agility to “play” them. Fishing, Billiards, Curling, etc. In fact, Curling does not even take hand-eye coordination. Some of you keep responding “No, it’s not” without bothering to validate your points.
And what is with the “sport is sport, a game is a game.” People do not go out and play a GAME of football. Or someone says “Not now honey, I am watching the GAME.”
Video games have every right to be called a sport. Unless you denounce curling as s sport, which I remind you is an Olympic event, there is NO reason for video games to be called otherwise. Because unlike some your sports, some video games actually require hand-eye coordination, cognitive thought process, and intelligence. Something lacking by the NFL linemen.
I’d agree with Dan. I think gaming can be a sport, a game or whatever. I don’t, however, consider gamers athletes. I don’t consider pool sharks or hunters athletes either.
Something lacking by the NFL linemen.
They get whacked too much…so they’re excused, kinda.
A cat is an animal, but not all animals are cats. Same with the discussion at hand, they all fall under the category of “game”, not all under the sub-category of “sports”. Don’t we say Olympic Games ?
no way does video gameing make you an athelete, someone mentioned golf and pool, i see them as sports but i dont consider them atheletes either.
an athelete to me is someone who is like the perfect example of the human race, they must have great physical strength and ability, stamina, and most of the time mental strength (well at least alertness).
video gamers most of the time need none of this, exept maybe for the last one, they are usually, not always, not very physical, unhealthy, not the sort of person you would send to represent our race.
thas all i know :p:
I think the issue with considering videogaming a sport or not lies in how much of the result is based on the output by the player. Currently, in most games, there are numerous variables that are not player-controlled, (ie, how high one jumps, what position one’s body is in, the result of the impact of said jump, for instance, in first person shooters). If these were all able to be renderred accurately based on player-input, there’s no reason it couldn’t be considerred a sport.
no way…video games are considered ENTERTAINMENT.
