AS3 vs other programming languages

So, currently looking for a job, and the offers were so-so in this town so far, although it is supposed to be the media central of this country. I got offers ranging from

sure, we’re looking for someone exactly like you. Wanna start now? No problme. How long? You choose! But because of some projects that didn’t go well lately, we don’t have money. So we pay you about 1000€ monthly if you work 50 hours for us weekly. Hey! Where are you running! Come back!

We liked your application, come meet us. … We liked meeting you, come work for us for a day. … We liked you working for us, decide if you want to work for us and message us later this week. … Oh, we changed our mind. Why? Can’t tell you that, company intern stuff.

Currently I work for a company creating videos for TV and the web, and create for them all kinds of flash apps needed for them to display and manage videos and other stuff.

Now, I do consider moving for a good job, but I got here good friends and would obviously prefer to stay here in this town, and thus consider also accepting other jobs. When I started my programming career like… 5 years ago, I learned the basics of all kinds of programming languages, such as Java, C, PHP, at that time AS2 and so on. Since then, I used mostly AS2, and some time ago switched to AS3 where I’m by now fairly confident in.

So a buddy of mine, with whom I had already worked together in the past, works at a company who are looking for junior php programmers, and he asked me if I’d like to join. PHP? Well, I know the basics. I started for fun programming a browser game mostly in php, and of course do the basics for flash-database communication. But good enough to work as a PHP developer? I’m not sure.

The question is:
If you are not a master in AS3 but proficient enough to basically program anything you want (given enough time), how good are the prospects to find a job in one of the programming languages I used in the past (such as Java) but forgot most off, or used in very shallow ways (such as PHP). How similiar are they really.

If I’m used to creating my classes and packages and all that stuff in AS3, how hard is it to use that knowledge to improve my PHP skills to be able to do acceptable in a job that got about nothing to do with flash progamming? Or even in matters of Java?

Thanks for reading and I’m interested in your opinions.
