Attention Kirupa Hosting Providers

Do any of you offer ASP and if so do you offer Access Databases?

with - PHP support as well.

My current provider handles both ASP and PHP - I’m looking at my options come renewal. I will also need a good size of bandwidth transfer.

Serious hosting providers only please.

Thank you.

please dont use asp. i well do anything. its just some other microsoft thing to shut the php world out:(

unfortunately, we don’t offer any windows servers at the moment. But if you could live without it, of course our services are excellent otherwise. We have lots of fellow kirupians onboard to vouch if you wish to ask around.

there is mod_asp for apache. so it is possble for asp to be on linux

well, i am certainly aware of that but we are choosing not to provide any asp service at this time. If we were to ever do so, it would be on a windows machine and not a linux box.

… and thats because kirupians get discounts right? :ear:

Not to cut anyone short, but i think that you are going to have a hard time finding this PR. If you can live without the ASP, along with UNFLUX, i can give you another solid host.

I think this is a rare mix - but there could be a few out there, i have yet to run across them, good luck in your search tho!

My dog knows more about servers than I do, so pardon my ignorance, but whats the difference between Linux and Windows based servers? I’m looking for plain old server hosting, nothing fancy, but I don’t understand the difference between Linux and Windows based servers. Are there certain pros/cons with each?

absolutely! …but everyone gets a good discount. Pay for 1 year and get 4 months free.

Generally speaking, Linux/Unix is the webhosting standard for server softare. It’s more stable and secure, and has been around a lot longer than Windows servers. Windows servers have made leaps and bounds over the past couple years, but all-in-all Linux is far superior with speed, stability, and security.

Windows offers asp, MS SQL and .NET, where Linux offers php and mysql. Depending on what you need or want to learn is where your decision should lie. If basic hosting is all you require, I would simply recommend a Linux/Unix host running Apache like what we offer.

Well I jumped from my host of 3+ years and gave up ASP, to host with Unflux. It is hard to steal me away from what works but his service has exceeded my needs. I was pretty much an ASP dude but I am taking my time to learn some PHP. I know soon he will provide Windows servers. But for now I would say his service is worthy, and I now recommend his service to others. Its hard to find reliable and responsive hosting with a mixture of aggressive rates. I would say jump to unflux. Then when he does get windows servers I am sure he will have a hook up for the loyal customers.

my .02

I’m a hard core ASP programmer - was a web developer for Nestle - ASP is my method of choice - I’m versed in PHP - and a lot of my clients existing backends are on it so I’m constantly learning and testing etc…but I need both - I do a lot in ASP still - right now I have both - but I also want an access database just for added ease of use.

My main attractions to some place else are:

unlimited sql databases
higher GB transfer
and more space.
access database

hybrid!

Pop3 + Imap server
Auto responders

Front page server extensions

Redhat Apache

EDIT:
Sorry it don’t help you, but I was wondering how it compares to others you have seen.

UNFLUX - You might be getting me as a new customer very soon. Those are some nice web hosting plans. Much better than what I have right now.

I would have to second that, and soon as it’s time to renew I will pay UNFLUX a visit again.

exovian.com - they have ASP/PHP hosting. I’m frustrated with them though when it comes to ASP coding - their directories have a weird masking thing going on that just makes me rip my hair out. Don’t bother trying to use file includes, only virtual ones.

This is what happens. Check out his link… http://www.cahsee.org/about
The server will redirect you to something like this: http://cahsee.org/cahsee.org_non_ssl/about/

If you can live with that use exovian. Just so that you know, I’m trying to quit them, but I want the same thing as you.

DDD - thanks for the endorsement. =)

prstudio, lava - good luck finding what you seek. If you decide otherwise, you know where to find me.

Ectheo, Vulcan - We would be glad to have you on board, you’re welcome any time. =)
