unfortunately, we don’t offer any windows servers at the moment. But if you could live without it, of course our services are excellent otherwise. We have lots of fellow kirupians onboard to vouch if you wish to ask around.
well, i am certainly aware of that but we are choosing not to provide any asp service at this time. If we were to ever do so, it would be on a windows machine and not a linux box.
Not to cut anyone short, but i think that you are going to have a hard time finding this PR. If you can live without the ASP, along with UNFLUX, i can give you another solid host.
I think this is a rare mix - but there could be a few out there, i have yet to run across them, good luck in your search tho!
My dog knows more about servers than I do, so pardon my ignorance, but whats the difference between Linux and Windows based servers? I’m looking for plain old server hosting, nothing fancy, but I don’t understand the difference between Linux and Windows based servers. Are there certain pros/cons with each?
Generally speaking, Linux/Unix is the webhosting standard for server softare. It’s more stable and secure, and has been around a lot longer than Windows servers. Windows servers have made leaps and bounds over the past couple years, but all-in-all Linux is far superior with speed, stability, and security.
Windows offers asp, MS SQL and .NET, where Linux offers php and mysql. Depending on what you need or want to learn is where your decision should lie. If basic hosting is all you require, I would simply recommend a Linux/Unix host running Apache like what we offer.
Well I jumped from my host of 3+ years and gave up ASP, to host with Unflux. It is hard to steal me away from what works but his service has exceeded my needs. I was pretty much an ASP dude but I am taking my time to learn some PHP. I know soon he will provide Windows servers. But for now I would say his service is worthy, and I now recommend his service to others. Its hard to find reliable and responsive hosting with a mixture of aggressive rates. I would say jump to unflux. Then when he does get windows servers I am sure he will have a hook up for the loyal customers.
I’m a hard core ASP programmer - was a web developer for Nestle - ASP is my method of choice - I’m versed in PHP - and a lot of my clients existing backends are on it so I’m constantly learning and testing etc…but I need both - I do a lot in ASP still - right now I have both - but I also want an access database just for added ease of use.
My main attractions to some place else are:
unlimited sql databases
higher GB transfer
and more space.
access database
exovian.com - they have ASP/PHP hosting. I’m frustrated with them though when it comes to ASP coding - their directories have a weird masking thing going on that just makes me rip my hair out. Don’t bother trying to use file includes, only virtual ones.
