I feel about luggage carousels the same way I feel about head lice: avoid at all costs.
Lol “head lice” is so real. I’ve been using an Away carry-on for school trips and it’s fine, but the wheels started sounding rough after a year of bad sidewalks—hard shells look nice until you drag them over cracked concrete all day.
The “wheels started sounding rough after a year of bad sidewalks” part hit home — my Away did the exact dying-shopping-cart noise after a bunch of cracked LA sidewalks, did you ever try getting the wheels swapped under warranty or did you just live with it? I might be wrong here.
Yo same thing happened to my Away after like a year of Austin sidewalks and a couple curb drops — I emailed support and they sent replacement wheels, but I ended up taking it to a local luggage repair spot to get them swapped because I didn’t feel like messing with it. it got rid of the dying-cart noise for me.
Away’s support is fine, but mailing you wheels and calling it a day feels like “congrats, you’re the repair tech now.”
Paying a local luggage place is the sane move — they’ll usually catch stuff like a slightly tweaked wheel housing from curb hits, and fresh wheels won’t fix that.
