Bin Laden, Saddam

I know the wars and our current international diplomacy has been discussed, but.

After 9-11 we said Bin Laden was the anti-christ and he needed to be taken out… Did we ever get him? What happended in Afghanistan?

Then Saddam, he threatens our safety and is evil, we MUST take him out… Did we ever get him?

Now we’re moving on to Iran and other countries. It doesn’t seem like GW is finishing anything, just keeps finding a new villian to attack.

I know there are those on this forum that no much more on this subject and I’d just like to hear what you ahve to say.

Are we still looking for bin laden? yes
Are we still looking for saddam? yes

Just cause they can find a cave to hide in, doesn’t mean we just quit looking for them. It’s just hard to find one person in a 1000 square mile country.

But the important thing is, they now have no power. Saddam and bin laden are now barely more powerful than my grandfather.

Yeah man, thats all true.

I mean even the most active Bush supporter (Kirupa :P) should ask themselves “What the hell is Dubbaya doing?”

We went over it many times in the forum. But honestly he dosent want them esepcialy.

Think about it: Do you honestly think that Bush is afraid (or ever was) of Saddam? Whos mighty army feel in 30 seconds? No, it was an excuse to invade Iraq, compromise their independace, have a second ally in the Middle East, and exercise inflence in the area.
I havent got in to it, until Iraq, so I honestly dont know much about Osama bin laden, (still reasearching before I say anything) But I did hear, that the invasion of Afganistan was planned before 9/11, so in the actual plans, Osama wasnt even an objective.

Hope this helps…

[EDIT] True War Cow,
Physicaly they have no real power, but we need to capture them fast, as them being at large they can still do many things. (remember Osama is a millionaire and Saddam probobly stashed alot of money in some foreign bank accounts.) As well as the though of US, most powerfull coutry, cant find two guys!
It gives US’s enemies a big moral boost. [EDIT]

Well, a leader is only as only as good his “support group.” Once you destroy the means by which a leader can exert power (take out most of his allies) you get someone that is powerless to do anything. Saddam and Bin Laden are nothing more than symbolic figures now - whether they live or die, it is of no use to anybody.

I doubt Bin Laden or Saddam will be able to do much in the future. It is also very difficult to find someone in a foreign country. We can barely find fugitives within our very own borders - it gets even more difficult when you are operating in a region that doesn’t take too kindly to the US (Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iran, etc.)

Cheers!

I agree about Saddam,
But for some reason, I honestly beleive we shouldnt underestimate Osama.

He is extremly inteligent, (Harvard Graduate) , Very dedicated to his cause (Fought the Russians in Afganistan, instead of sipping martinis on some pool far away), he is extremly ruthless, (9/11) and he is extremly rich. Now dont tell me this is not a recepie for something deadly. This guy is no coward, and him being at large is also a very big simbolic gesture of how US cant capture him…

Plus this guy, unlike Saddam, has a huge network of terrorism, allies and support through out the world. He is no fool, he is already using it to a very big potential.

That’s a good point. It doesn’t take much to plan intelligent attacks using only a few people.

Are you sure Osama bin Laden went to Harvard? All I see are links to his cousin (Abdullah bin Laden) who did go to Harvard and some scholarship his family had at one time. He had a bunch of brothers and sisters, so typing in bin Laden gets a ton of random results that may not actually be Osama.

Harvard School of Terrorism…maybe? :ub:

Cheers!
Kirupa :smirk:

Opps. I aplogize,
Other Bin Ladens studied there, he studied Managment And Economics at Abdul Aziz University in Jedda.
:trout:

Still, he is very inteligent person, underestimating him is a wrong, and quite dumb move.

Osama went to Cambridge I believe.

I personally think that every endevour should be made to get them both otherwise the US is gonna look mighty stupid in my eyes at least… I still cannot understand why Saddam wasn’t finished off the first time…

I don’t think either really pose much of a threat these days (bin laden maybe coz i think he still pulls the strings) but i do think they both should be brought to justice…
