Bitmap symbol distortion

Often when I convert a bitmap to a symbol and publish it, the image symbol becomes distorted with an extra jagged edge.
I’ve tried everything I can think of and read about to smooth the edge (minor resizing, Alpha setting to 99%, etc) without any results.
And this only seems to happen with a symbol - the original bitmap when published looks fine.
Can anyone help me out here?

Hi avir673, welcome to KirupaForums.

i’ve never had this problem. Could you link to an swf, so that we can see what’s wrong.

I’ve had problems with flash distorting my images and what I did to solve the problem was give each of my image a transparent border or margin all around. So if you have an image that is 100x100 for example, adjust the canvas so that it’s now 120x120 for example so that the actual image is still 100x100, but it has a 10 pixel transparent border all around. I hope that works for you as it worked for me, good luck.

Thanks for the replies. I put up a quick example of what I’m talking about at:
http://www22.brinkster.com/avir673/test.html
The 2 images on the left are symbols and the 2 on the right are bitmaps.
I tried adding a margin around the bottom logo, but it doesn’t seem to help.

Select those symbols and try setting the alpha to 98%, see if that works.

No, changing the alpha settings hasn’t helped.

try setting the x and y position to a whole number.

Nope, setting the x, y values to whole numbers doesn’t seem to help either.
I’ve tried this in the office on other computers where there are also copies of Flash with the same results.
I wondering if this might be a bug in our particular copy of the Flash application.
