Buying a new Vid card, need some opinons :)

Hey all, ive left not changing my card for long enough, running these specs

P4 , 2.4a ghz (533)
512 ddr (333)
two monitors
and running a outdated geforce 2 mx 400, well it was good and still is good to me, though i think its time for the bin!!

Now my question is , what is the best card for me, i use alot of photoshop, illustrator, flash, dreamweaver, and other design apps

:combustion and aftereffects sometimes, usually to compose 3d animations.

:Maya and swift 3d

and i love to play my games,

splinter cell, fifa 2003, nba live 2003, ect…

So now what is the best card i can get, price is not issue though i would like to spend less than $1000 (Australian dollars)

Things iam looking at are

::Nvidia Geforce 4 ti 4800 (8x AGP)
::Nvidia Geforce FX
::Nvidia Quadro FX 2000

Well, if you have the money, go for the Radeon 9700 Pro or a GF Fx. The 9700 Pro has dropped quite a bit in price, and I think it is the best card right now for the price. The GF Fx is great also, but it is quite pricey and its better performance (imho) does not justify the high price over that of the Radeon 9700.

The TI4X00 series are fairly outdated - try to avoid them if you can :slight_smile:

Cheers!

The Radeons have this little problem of overheating… the 7000 and the 9700 have been over heating in my friends shop. The GeForce’s don’t overheat… I still run a Radeon 7000 but thats cuz I got it for free… :slight_smile:

I’ve had no problems with oevrheating Jubba… That sucks about your friends… Although I did hear that you have to keep it at the limitations of the card and you couldn’t overpressure it… But hey… That’s fine standards by me… Everything loads up in split seconds and my graphics look fantabulous.

<< Radeon 9700 Pro >>

thanks all for your replies, iam not really down with the Radeon 9700 Pro ducks and cover from Marz throwing sharp objects

hehehe…

Though i would love to get the FX series, either the geforce FX or Quadro FX, but i have to wait a little while before they come out here, so i can see if the price is justified. I have been looking for a while and i have heard that the quadro Fx is a pretty awesome application gfx card, it supports directx 9 and is pretty much the same as the geforce fx though it has more features for 3d but it will cost alot more doe!.

The reason i threw in the Geforce 4 Ti 4800 (8x) is that i found that it is major cheap! $440 (australian) and still going down, i am probably going to wait till the FX series comes out to see what happens to the price of 4800. If the price of the 4800 is cheaper than it is now, i would just grab that till the FX series is more stable, but you never know i might win the lottery and get all 3 cards just to be sure!!

:sigh: i wish :smirk:

kicks you repeatably

It might have just been the 7000 series then. Mine has done it a couple of times… which reminds me… i need to put that back in… where did I put it… ?

Bah… hehe… You took it out?!

:crazy: Man… :crazy: …
