Can you help improve my site?

i’m really an illustrator, but recently learnt some flash basics and i’m having fun with it. i’m not into anything too clean and slick [but i can really appriciate it on other sites]

can you help me improve mine???

Well, 2MB flash file is pretty large for what you are trying to achieve on your website. to make it smaller and/or quicker:
SMALLER:
(1) You’ll want to make sure that the resolution of the document that you are working on is 72DPI, which is the standard for the web (300DPI for print etc.)
make the quality of the images lower (if you are using Photoshop for
(2) when you save for web, you can play around with the quality … for the sizes you are using, you won’t need maximum quality.
QUICKER:
break you single flash movie into separate flash movies rather than loading all the images in one go. For example you have a main menu movie for navigation that calls smaller flash movies for each section (which can load in the background or as/when required)

BTW - you should also protect your flash file from import when you publish it, otherwise other people can import it into flash and help themselves to the content.

i think that going into the Library (F11) you can select your images, right click and go to properties, and then uncheck SMOOTHING. Do it to all the images, and then republish, and compare your before and after file size. You can also uncheck USE IMPORTED JPEG DATA, and specify a level of about 60 for all the images, then republish. This might trim down on a bit of the file size.

I really like your Illustrations, both Digital and Traditional… nice style…

you have really good artwork. i agree that the file size is way too large, but that can be taken care of by lessening the load those images are putting on it.

cut it up into externally loaded swf files

at the beggining with the rocket, the movement is kinda jerky, and takes along time to “arive”. Inside the site, not all the buttons have the sound on it (turn the sound volume down! It rattled my desk when i clicked on the button). I think you should vectorize the things that apear on the chair, now they look kinda pixilated. It needs some sort of border to help it blend into the background, because now it jsut ends. I would also change the fonts (get rid of the comic sans load time notice thingy).

Oh and in the science art section, there is no chair so the girls are just hovering in space

Cheers!

thanks so much for all your suggestions. i know that this is such a basic site, no action scripting and all that palava, and it is not really like the other sites posted on this forum, so i really appriciate the help. will try out your suggestions. please keep it coming.
cheers, samsara.

thanks 3dnirvana. where do i turn the sound down, actually might take sound off- pretty daggy. also i know what you mean by the jerky rocket. it happened the first time on my computer, but when i tested it on some others, it didnt do it, would a preloader solve this?

i think i am going to do this and break the files up. arent flash files automatically 72dpi??, i think my document is 72 dpi. where do i cheak?. also my images are saved as ‘medium’ about 6 on the jpeg scale. if i make them any lower they look really bitsy and pretty bad. and thank you soo soo much for the protect from import bit!!! i didnt have a clue about this. this is a great tip. cheers, samsara.

thank you, what will happen to the quality of the images if i uncheck smoothing? to me they look pretty much as low quality as they can go at the moment. thanks, samsara.
