I put in a CD, burn with either Nero or Windows Explorer, and it just doesn’t go anywhere. Nero goes through all the stages until ‘Burn process started at 48x’, then it just stops… No flashing light on my DVD-RW drive. I hit ‘Cancel’ and abort the burning, and then Nero freezes. I can’t launch any other programs after this happens and restarting doesn’t work, so I’m forced to press the reset button.
Strangely enough, this doesn’t happen with DVDs - they burn perfectly. There’s been the odd occasion where a CD would burn successfully, but 99% of the time the above thing happens.
I had a suspicion that it might be the ASPI drivers. The Nero ASPI driver was already installed (a dll in the Nero folder). I downloaded the Adaptec ASPI drivers and ran the installer, but the included ASPI-checker thing still reports that it’s not installed… Not sure if this is the problem, though.
