Copyright thing for music

If Someone creats a site for his community"school"or the hood… If I use let say a song(s) from 50 cent and/or LloydBanks can these artists sue mi of copyright thing? or can i use these simply because I buyed there album?

They can sue you…

It’s copyrighted material - so I doubt it.
Look at the sleeve notes, it will probably say something like:
"All rights reserved. Unauthrised copying, lending, hiring, reproduction, public performance and broadcasting prohibited."
Ask for permission, with details of the site etc, you never know they might say yes! (gl)

Actually, the two posters above me are dead wrong. 50 Cent would not sue you, he would come over to your house and pop a cap in yo azz (popular slang for ‘shoot’). So no, you don’t have to be afraid of a lawsuit, just get a bullet proof vest.

Dude! You use that song and yer dead meat! Simple enough?

By using copyrighted material without permission is against the law. However, an artist like 50 Cent won’t sue you (it woulden’t even be him, it would be his record company), loads of people use music in sites, record companies don’t really care most of the time.

I mean why should they care, they know if I use there artists music on my site and maybe they will like the site. Thats a good thing, people will like 50, but if I use a broke syngers song. he is hungry for it. eather way I have to use GarageBand:gm:

If you use 50 cents song, and you r website makes money they would come down a lot harder on you if your website didn’t make money.

50 cent’s record company like to do their own promotion. If you use his material on your site, lets say it portrays 50 as a posh private school boy (not that you would), thats not gonna help him sell his gangster image…promotion companies like to sell a specific image.

Rule of thumb, never use copyrighted material withouth permission. So ask first its much safer.

If its non profit or educational they may well listen to your request and let you use it. Otherwise they’ll send you an invoice to how much it will cost. That is, if they want to be affiliated with your site. Being sued I’d presume isn’t much fun.

btw “people will like 50” not me

OK wait. Why the hell would you want 50 cent playing on your website? Seriously.

^finally somone said it lol… who listens to that lol.

amen 50c is :bored:

actually most rap is :bored:

Why not ask? Write something charming to the effect of:

“I am an electronic artist/student and am building an [insert nature of project here] and would like to use your music for the soundtrack. The project will not generate any income and of course you will be credited…” bla bla.

I tried it on with someone considerably less famous than 50 a couple years ago. He got back the next day, asking for plans/screenshots etc and after a couple of emails were exchanged, I was allowed to put his mind-bogglingly good soundtrack on my mind bogglingly good animation. Which didn’t make any money, but won awards, and got screened at ACMI…
Give it a crack.

You can’t spell crap without rap.

or any music at all for that matter.

I think if you use it for commercial work he can sue you… like for money!

yea because It would be cool to use his or like 2pac´s music on some sites for my homies you know, the hood and the community here in Norway. I mean I dont like to use only free beats. These guys got great beats gives life to the site you know.:hitman:

before you get sued they would probably send you a cease and desist letter from their lawyers first. the threat of legal action is much cheaper than legal action itself. if you didnt take the music down after that, you would probably get sued.

yes I think thats how it works, so eather way I got time to change it/replace it.:sc:
