Hey all. Don’t mean to spam your forum…we’re just looking for a few good designers with Flash skills to step up and enter a design contest around the Creative Commons/Open Source JW Media Player…and this definitely seemed like a good place to get the word out. The grand prize is $1000, but the first 20 entries also receive a $25 Amazon.com gift certificate. Also, any skins that get added to our forthcoming Add-Ons catalog will include a “Donate to Developer” button, so you could receive a bit of income down the road…to give you some idea of the volume, our 5 “introductory” skins have been downloaded ten of thousands of times since last month when they were introduced…it’s a bit of a win-win-win!
Here’s the official “Press Release” for those interested…links for more info at the bottom…
CONTEST: $1,000 PRIZE: Design Skins for the JW Media Player & Win!
LongTail Video is hosting a design contest for the latest release of the JW Media Player, the most downloaded Creative Commons FLV player on the web. The player, written entirely in ActionScript 3.0 by Jeroen “JW” Wijering, introduces a bunch of features, including Skinning. Now, anyone with a good eye and some experience with Adobe Flash’s visual elements can completely redesign the look & feel of the JW Media Player.
To kick things off, LongTail is hosting a contest. The Grand Prize? $1,000. But there’s also a door prize – the first TWENTY creators to submit a skin each receive a $25 Gift Certificate from Amazon.com. And if your skin is posted for download on the LongTailVideo.com site, soon you will be eligible to receive donations from our massive user base (over one million uniques / month).
In September, each download page will include a link to donate DIRECTLY to the developer, so even if you don’t win, you could still earn some great money (our current skins have already generated tens of thousands of downloads).
The contest is on now and runs until the end of the month (August 31st, 2008) – so get skinning!
