Editing an instance's registration point in MX

So I have read the page(s) here at Kirupa regarding how to edit an instance’s registration (center point) in MX and it does not work.

When I get to the point where I am to drag the center to it’s new location, a circle icon does move to the new location but leaves the crosshair registration icon back on the instance. I thought that maybe this was MX’s new way of showing you the new location as well as the original, but when I run my movie (which is a puzzle game which compares the instance’s altered center to the center of a frame border which contains all of the pieces to determine whether the piece is in the right spot), the piece only locks into place if I move the instance piece to the center of the frame, not to where it actually should sit within the frame. Get it? Anyhoo, I don’t think this is gonna work until I can figure out a way to move the actual crosshair icon (not this circle icon) of the instance to line up with the center registration icon of the containing frame/border.

Why didn’t Macromedia leave well enough alone?! It was so easy in Flash 5.

Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,…I just stumbled upon this board and think it’s a great idea! I plan on being a regular.

Great stuff here!
Thanks!

The registration point according to Actionscript is created when you create your movie clip.

After you hit f8 and open up the symbols panel, you will see a block with 9 squares in it, each of those squares are clickable and allow you to edit where you want your registration point to be.

If you edit it with the free transform tool, that just edits it for things you do like rotating it with the free transform tool and such.

Thanks, I’ll have to take a closer look at the method you described as I thought I had tried that way already.

I did come up with an ass-backwards way of doing it which involves me lining the newly placed instance up with the center of where I want the altered center to be, then double clicking it and moving the graphic part of the symbol in the editing mode while the crosshair stays behind,…it works but ya, I sat there thinking there had to be a better way.

I’ll look at yours, thanks!

Yeah, that is what I used to do before I realized those boxes weren’t there just for show…lol.
