Electrongeek.net V.2

Well after getting valuable feedback from this forum, I went ahead and made a new layout to start off the new year. Please take a look and tell me what you think, thanks in advance. =)

www.electrongeek.net

The splash page looks cool :smirk:

It’s that girl from “dark angels” ay?

I like the futuristic effect. Tell me when it’s finished.

Did you do some tutorials from www.phong.com?

Anyway you sight rocks definitely.

Yup, that’s Jessica Alba from Dark Angels, she’s a hottie!! haha And you’re right about Phong.com, I did most of the tutorials on there, it’s one of my favorite tutorial sites. As for your site, I’ll post a comment on the thread you posted it on earlier. Thanks for the comments.

No words can do justice to the beauty of Jessica Alba! :stuck_out_tongue:

Wow electrongeek! I must say the redesign rocks!

I like the way the gallery is organized. It’s all laid out and very easy (for me) to go through. I also like the consistent font usage and the good use of color.

One thing though: the font is a very small and I can barely read it.

wow…i love the interface
those graphics really kick ***
man… its awesome=)

cheers

Thanks Ren, it’s all thanks to the feedback I recieved from this forum, it has made it possible for me to see things I normally wouldn’t have seen on my own. As for the text, sorry if it’s so small, I wanted to use a pixel font and that’s the best one I’ve found, it’s actually Eilsoe’s, haha so thanks goes out to him. =)

Thanks for the comment ahmed, I’ll try to add more artwork soon. I’m taking a break from designing for now since this new layout burned me out. ;(

LOL, thanks Dave, I tend to get bored of things quick and my other layout got old quick so it had to go. Since I have all this free time, I might as well put it to good use. As for the doors, they’re nothing too complicated, it’s just an image I sliced into 2 piecies and tweened to open and close inside a MC of it’s own. When I load the external movie, the door MC is activated to close and on the external movie, I have an action on the first frame that targets the door MC to open. As for my backgrounds, they’re all Cinema 4D and Photoshop. I’m glad you like the music too hahah. :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, I already told you what I thought over AIM, but I will still say it here.

I think it is great. The colors and the layout is great, and the animations run smooth on my comp. And I see you bumped the quality of the images up as per my suggestion, it looks much better and smoother now

And Holy Shmokers, I didn’t realize I made it into your links section… THANKS MAN!!!

No prob Lost, thanks for beta testing my site too. =)

Nicely done. I can’t say much that hasn’t been said above…

Nice Indeed.

smooth (kinda choppy on my POS), intuitive, appealing…

the only thing is that I don’t like the auto-scroll on the gallery…

Just being real fussy, but I think it detracts from your art…

Beautiful site…

Rev

Thanks for the input Rev, I was a bit sketchy on the scrolling on the gallery too, some of my art work is pretty big and I wanted to show all of it. I didn’t want to resize the artwork to make it fit so I used the scroller, maybe I should have buttons so the viewer can manually scroll it? I know my site isn’t your style, but thanks for commenting on it anyways. =)

I admit I was skeptical, thinking I knew what to expect…

You overcame my preconceived notions, with your ease of use.

As far as my style, everyone has one, and this one shows yours very well. I would be very proud to have produced this site.

As far as your artwork, just give the option to see the image in full size/all at once…

Again, well done.

Rev

I’m sorry, but I didn’t understand that, what do you mean?

Well, judging by the stuff you have posted in the past, I kinda thought it would be more showey, more gratuitious animation… I mean like the transitions, and how you get from point a to point b.

As soon as I got into the site, I forgot about the transitions, which, in my opinion, is excellent useability. Most futuristic styled sites are difficult to maneuver.

I hope that explains it.

Rev

ohhhhhh I understand now, well I’ve learned a lot since my last layout and I took my time on this new one making sure the navigation was easy, but yet stylish and effective. Also that’s a great idea with what you said about giving the viewer the option to see the artwork in full, I can make a flash type of pop up showing the artwork in full and give the viewer the ability to close it when they’re done looking at it. Thanks again for the input. =)

no prob…

good work,

Rev

you are one of the great…

wow, man keep on doing your job and you will be rich  … and famous…

i really enjoy your work…

thx for the footer tutorial … finally i got it to create transparent png´s with corel photopaint… yea

The front page is very cool, but it took my PC quite a while to load it, and this thing is superfast. I would have liked to have seen the Enter button do something when I rolled over it, but that’s just me.

Once you’re in there though, it’s a lovely little interface you’ve designed. I like the plasma-type picture at the top, very nice colours. I like the way the specifications for new projects print themselves, it’s a nice touch. So is the ‘door’ opening and closing while each section loads.

I also enjoyed the fact that you can interact with the little animations at the top of some of the pages.

I’m with Ren in that I love the gallery - especially the pic of the Ferrarri, I’ve always had a weak spot for them.

Only things that I’d comment on in a negative way are the size of the text (someone mentioned that earlier) and the loading bar. With that, my gripe is that I’d prefer a bar that told me how the load was progressing. The current one doesn’t tell me how far through a picture is, if you see what I mean.

Thanks for the comments Kit, I will definitely try to fix some of the flaws you mentioned. I have a sucky host so my site doesn’t load as fast sometimes so I aploligize for that. As for my preloader, I will switch to a percentage displaying one as soon as I figure out how to incorporate it to my set up, it’s a little tricky. ;(
