Since it’s the holidays, I was able to finish my gallery so now my site is complete. I thought I’d give it a shot and see if I win. Here is the URL to my site:
that site is :A+:
Well done my friend!
=)
Thanks Guigo!
OK, here I go:
First impression: “Oh ****, another site with that futuristic look”. The futuristic look is a very hard thing to do, because you have to pay attention to every detail. For instance, when the menu on the left opens, there’s a very nice effect, like dust. But when it closes, nothing, it snaps back. :-/ Or when you click “About”, or “Profile”, a “thing” comes out, but it’s reloaded each time. It doesn’t go in and out. And the font is a bit too normal, I think. Maybe you could use another one (the one Eilsoe uses in his footers, for instance). I know it’s all detail but I think that if you are going to do that look, you have to make it perfect.
That’s it for the critics :beam: Actually, I was a bit hard, because the quality of your backgrounds and the gallery is amazing. And you have to explain how you did that thing in the gallery: Digital Imaging, the 3rd and the 4th, the girl’s faces. That’s really great work.
I’m sorry to be so hard on you, but I think you’re a very gifted person, and that you can make a really wonderful site. Otherwise I wouldn’t waste my time
that critic is a compliment in disguise!
True, true…
I´m sooo jealous…
No it’s not!
I know you.
You, shielded by your rudeness…
but inside you´re all soft. Sensible like a little girl:P
some posts of you almost make me cry :misty:
what you show a post ago was pure love man!:*( beautiful:)
=)
Pom is right, when I first started with this site, I didn’t know as much as I do now because it was before I joined this forum. If I was to redo this site, I would do it a lot better and have all the transitions reverse themselves like what pom was saying about the menu. And the thing about Pom being hard, I expect that kind of critism because I need honest opinions. I can only get better if someone points out my weaknesses and I’m glad Pom is honest. =)
some people got angry at me when I made some critics on theyr work.
I know that you know better.
I have to agree with pom on his coments, and I still think (as pom does too) that your site rocks, and nothing is perfect but everything can be improved.
And you, what you gonna do about this:q:
Will you sit and le things flow, or, you gonna take Ilyas advices and better up your site?
Of course I’m going to take his advice, but unfortunately it would be extremely hard for me to change the set up I have now since my menu system is very complex. So the best thing for me to do is make a new version, apply what I learn from this layout and use it towards a new one. I think it would be much easier for me if I just make a new one. =)
And about people being mad at your critism Guigo, I think that’s lame cause by submitting their work they have to understand that there will be negative and positive comments. No work is perfect right off the bat, its trial and error. To improve you need feedback so I will only get mad if people hold back on their honest opinions. Thanks again. =)
Pretty cool man…I am going to be a lil harsh also. Here I go. Those colors are greatly overused, it would have been cool to use them a new way. This one is bone head on my part. But after your preloader the globe was still there glowing and I was waiting for something else to happen till i figured to click it. That was 1 pt off. Hey we gotta assume the user is dumb right? …It might have been my machine but it seemed to be very slow moving. The nature of those colors put me in the mood for speedy transitions/ Other than that the site is very cool…you get 8 out of 10. Maybe one day ill finish mine…
Thanks for the input 3d-iva, you’re right about colors. I was highly influenced by 2advanced when I created this site so I used the monochrome look which I see now is used a lot. I will work on a new version and add more color. I do apoligize for it being slow on some computers since I was a total n00b when I was creating this site and was doing this very unconventionally with a lot of tweens that could of been done with AS. I’ll try again for SOTW with my next version. Thanks for the feedback guys. =)
any other comments? :-\
Well, if you could explain that thing I mentionned in my first post… :beam: please?
Ohhh yea I forgot, I made the girl’s hair using a tutorial I found. Here’s the link:
http://www.phong.com/tutorials/wire/
It’s just photoshop stuff and it’s pretty easy. =)
Thanks. I’ll try that :+)
this site is really good. good job elec. im workin on a site myself, and me being a noob, its comin along slow.
NOOB QUESTION: i need someone to help me with a music player for my site. can anyone help me?
hehe had to throw that in there…
EDIT by pom: Well you shouldn’t…
…bastard…
anyway, i dont need help with it anyways
well, nice site, cant wait till i can make stuff that good.
LOL
that pom…
I know what you mean Guig0 (concerning crits). I use to love doing site crits but I rarely do it now, since it turns out that most people are just fishing for compliments.
But not Elec… he seems to be open to suggestion. Anyway, it does seem highly inspired by 2advanced but NOT COPIED. Inspired = good, copied = bad. I tried to explain this to a 2advanced-biter, but he didn’t seem to take it very well, hawking that his site is “inspired” and not “blatantly ripped off.” Your site, elec, is definitely not a 2advanced clone. I can see you have an affinity for the colors and graphical stylings of the web’s most stolen layout, but the animations and transitions are different. I don’t think 2advanced is that great - I’m sure you could do better. Perhaps you could improve the visual hierarchy by breaking the 2advanced tradition and adding (gulp) an additional contrasting color. Maybe use something bright like yellow or orange and highlight the selected button. It’ll break the monotony but also tell the user where exactly she/he is on your site (I noticed there’s no section titles).
Other than that - I think it’s a great site and it showcases great work. I like the poof dust thing, and I think it’s ok that it “just closes.” The inter-section transitions are a tad too long for my taste (which is why I’m fine with the submenu just closing, since it’s quick and to the point). But that’s just me.
One more thing: you maximized my browser window - naughty naughty
